Reviews for "Old Tonight we hunt The Roaring Box demon (demo)"

still kinda buggy and laggy but its comming along, keep up the good work

This does not inspire a lot of confidence. I understand that this is a demo, and things are subject to change, but this seems like it still needs a lot of work before it is ready.

The game runs like molasses. I have a decently fast internet connection, and a pretty good computer, that can easily run games that are way more graphically-intensive than this, so I'm fairly certain this is not on my end. I've also tried changing the quality settings, and no dice. No matter what, it still runs like ass. The audio quality is not great, and when the game begins to slow down, so does the music, turning into a drawn-out, crackly mess that just grates on me.

The dialogue is bad. I know, I know, english is probably not your first language-- and I'd be perfectly willing to overlook some grammatical mistakes here and there. But you literally have sentences, entire lines of dialogue that amount to contradictory gibberish. Might I humbly suggest that you run this by someone who does speak the language, and let them edit it so that it isn't such a mess? That'd be the easiest way to fix it.

And that's before we even get to the gameplay.

The gun is the only offensive option worth anything. Its range allows you to snipe enemies from offscreen, ammo is cheap, and it fires fairly quickly. However, it is useless at close range, since the barrel of the gun is so long that it ends up firing past enemies instead of at them.

So, that leaves you with two options. You can either reposition, and keep firing until they die, or can use your melee weapon.

But, your ridiculously tiny knife requires that you practically stand inside enemies so it can hit, and then it pushes you away from your enemy, so you can't keep swinging on them. And of course, it gets worse, because, instead of taking damage from an enemy attack, you take damage from touching them. So, in order to use the knife at all, you have to take damage while trying to hit them.

So, use the gun, and nothing else. That's not terribly well-balanced.

I suppose it makes sense to have them damage you on-touch, though. The gaps in the enemies' attacks are large enough to drive a truck through, and both of the mooks provided died before ever getting on screen. I did get hit though, by the actual boss itself, but only after I ran out of bullets.

Yes, I know there are other weapons, and I do know that they may work better than the knife. That's a given. However, I lack the patience to wait for the slideshow to allow me to finish my jump animation, so I can go buy one and try it out. Maybe next time you release a demo, I'll give them a shot.

The dash doesn't really do anything, as far as I can tell. I never had to use it on the mooks, because gun, and the boss's hitbox is so huge that dashing past him gets you run over anyway.

So, 1.5 stars. Give the core stuff some work, and try again.

your english is so bad that some of the dialog LITERALLY says the opposite of what you meant it to.

you could have run this by someone with solid english skills. my guess is you did a very cheap translation or had someone who is quite unintelligent do the grammar checking.

why would i want a free copy of a game that lacked grammatical polish?

it was literally in the very beginning of the game that i observed this. which tells me there must be countless other problems.

i'm out.
