Reviews for "The Odyssey :: Karco Mix"

Overall -> 8 and a half. =D

The notes are very nice that you've chosen, sounds like an anthem trance mixed with DnB. The intro was pretty good too, it was smooth and easy to get into.

But then . . .

The cymbal you introduced is really poorly mixed, if i may say so without any offence. Try and compress it or even reverb, ever tried adding that little bit of reverb to kicks and percussion? It can change how a song is treated in someone's mind. It's also a little repetitive, but all techno tracks are, and if they are not, THEY SHOULD BE!

Overall, a good track, needs to be mixed/mastered a bit better, but quality happy melodies.

Cheers.

Karco responds:

More than one review? Okay, sure. I'll take it. :P This is one of my older tracks (my fourth or fifth real one) bit I'll keep your criticism in mind anyway.

Yep, I liked that intro too. Huh? Cymbal? You must be hearing things... unless you're talking about that hihat. Aah, I remember these days... the days when I used FL presets. :D I don't anymore. You won't hear that kind of stuff from me. (Oh, and nope - I didn't take any offense from that. :) )

Also at this time I didn't know what reeverb was, though I'd heard of it. So naturally it didn't show in my song... thankfully I use it often in my songs, where it's necessary.

Again, nothing else to add... but thanks for te review, it's all appreciated. Glad you like it. :)

Now we're getting there...

HAHA! The Odyssey! Now we're getting to the interesting stuff! Id love to go on a huge explanation of Odysseus's travles...But sadly this is an audio page. =) Id love to though. I liked it but it didnt seem very techno-ish so I'd say this belongs under DnB. But nice song! I liked it =)

Karco responds:

Go ahead and enlighten me via PM. =)

This is actually one of my older songs, and I don't like it very much. =\ What compelled you to review it?

I can see your reasoning behind belonging in DnB, though, and I'd have to agree.

Thanks for reviewing, glad you like it. =)

Yeah, keep it up but...

Man, ou don't have to have that video game sound in EVERY time you make a song... this time it didn't fit in at all... at least not with this DnB kind of song...

and yes, you keep improving. This song is a really good one, but I don't see why it has to be so damn fast... It would do much better as a slow trance song than a DnB song.

And you gotta use a compressor too... it's clipping and peaking ALL the time, you never really mastered it at all.

Keep improving and making songs.

Karco responds:

Huh. I had it again? Maybe it's the 3x0sc synths I use... gah. I really don't have anything else, though I'm trying to get something. =)

Nice.

What you've done with the song works well, and it fits nicely from beginning to end.

The Good
melody (even though its partly someone elses)
Use of sound effects (like at the beginning)

The not so good
-the typical in your face and all for their own FL style. Many new users do this, as in having all the instruments try to dominate the volume level and pierce your ears ;) You'll have to pull some levels down in the mixer and add effects like reverb to make it nicer to listen to. I can't stress enough that they all have to work together instead of a free-for-all.

Hope that helps. Nice piece overall.

Karco responds:

Yeah, I'm still working on those volume problems. I'll keep that in mind when I'm making my next song. :) Actually, it's not as bad, in my opinion, in some of my previous songs. I think it's because I messed up and turned down everything because it was too loud, when the master volume on the computer was louder than it was before and I forgot about that. When I realized it, I brought everything a little too high, resulting in the chaotic noise level you have now. Hah. So thanks for the review, I'll keep what you said in mind. :)

Ohh

I LOVE the notes you've chosen, its very jazzy (in a techno way :).

+ The piano is brilliantly blended in.
+ Its very clear & original.
- Gets repetitive after a while.
- Lack of ambience, just experiment with delays and reverbs till you know them inside out.
# Thanks for your vote, Draze! You voted 5 for The Odyssey :: Karco Mix, keeping its score at 5.00.

Overall its great man, well done. It does however have a lot of potential for improvment.

Karco responds:

Well, like I said in a previous response, you have Drumr345 to thank for the melody, (and the piano chords) though the harmony that comes in at 1:42 I made.

Yeah, I noticed that it gets repetitive eventually in the part where I introduce the new drums (where the melody comes in) gets repetitive, I tried. =)

Thanks for the review - glad you like it. =D
