Reviews for "Orion"

Meh. Just a bland breakout clone.

ArthurBOliveira responds:

Oh come on, there are the equipments... and zen mode... there is even a shop

Kind of feels like just another pong. And the ball is uncomfortably fast.

Visually it looks nice but controls don't feel good, the ball moves way too fast and the paddle too slow. Controls are everything in these types of games improve that and it'd be a 4 easy for me.

okay, so it's a Breakout/Arkanoid clone, but instead of being solid blocks we've got transparent squares, occasionally giant triangles, a few rather obnoxious obstacles (red X blocks, freeze rays, clock-killing beams, and even timed block shields), and one whopper of a boss in campaign mode.

well, while i do appreciate knowing how many hits each block does have left, i feel the multiplier on the ball speeds it up way to fast. secondly, i noted that when i finished a Quick Game, it automatically unlocked all of the levels in Campaign Mode. if this was purposeful, then go right ahead, but i do find it rather strange. next, although i think i perceive the function Zen Mode, i ultimately fail to see its usefulness in the grand scheme of the game.

as you may well already know, the game is quite buggy: coming back from the game screen to the menu screen or the in-between menus, i often find that the buttons have lost letters. sometimes the buttons have disappeared entirely. i did refresh, close, restart, etc and come back, but problems did seem to persist. sometimes the game itself had forgotten my progress: not sure what that was about either. that's in addition to the ball often getting stuck in between blocks in the playing field (probably the most common error).

also, it kinda detracts from the experience when you also seem to only have half the playing field, but in reality, the ball is stuck bouncing "above" the playing field like it does in that one campaign stage.

lastly, not sure why you decided to make all of the medals secret medals. obviously some of them are going to be stage medals, score related medals, star related medals, max upgrades, and then some, but i thought it was a majorly strange way to list them all. just things to consider for your next release.

ArthurBOliveira responds:

First, thank you for your time writing down this huge feedback, now let's get to it.

"i feel the multiplier on the ball speeds it up way to fast" it was a pain in the ass to balance the speed and for some people is still to fast, for other is not fast enough. I tried my best to make everyone happy, but you know...

"Zen Mode, i ultimately fail to see its usefulness in the grand scheme of the game" this game also has an Android version. I design it as an Android casual game, so the Zen mode would be a no commitment kind of game. Then I port it to Newgrounds and I left it thinking maybe someone would like.

"when i finished a Quick Game, it automatically unlocked all of the levels in Campaign Mode" that's a hell of a bug that went unnoticed to me up to now.

"as you may well already know, the game is quite buggy" YES.

"not sure why you decided to make all of the medals secret medals" because I'm a dingus. No excuse for that one. I don't even know if I can revert it.

Edit: Turn out I can make change the medals to not secret, so I did change!

Ok I get that you lose time if you miss the ball.
I don't get why you lose random 20 seconds while the ball in play
If that supposed to happen it should be explain but I feel it a bug it makes the game way harder than need and some times the level impossible to beat.
Heck one level the paddle just stopped moving on me till i died. WTH
II would not download to my phone with this many bugs turns me off from it.
