In this game you can make exactly one choice - that is one more then in most games. Good depiction of the general gaming. Games with multiple endings and player choices are becoming more popular and I myself always value that a lot, linearity is yesterday. Humanity in general asks for more freedom of choice today and gaming depicts that too.
What would be the lesson of this piece? Well my favorite interpretation would be that in life we actually don't have much choice - our responses are predetermined much by our biology, culture, upbringing, advertisements - we have no choice - until some rare moment when we do. It' important to stay vigilant and to not miss that moment.
I wonder if the author is familiar with Gnosticism, the game seemed very much in line with that belief. The evil Demiurge and the Grace that shows creations a way out of the evil world by rejecting it.
