Reviews for "Cave Legacy"

And I really like the game so far. First run was like a test and tutorial one, I was just learning. And now I'm really enjoying it. A mix of ups and downs for my party, but I think I've got a grasp of how to manage it. Great variety, good job.
Got really unlucky though, as the starting year was the Banker one, no exp for my gladiators. And next year was the Banker's too.
Well, takes some time to learn the mechanics, but that's worth it.

It was certainly a big game, but it wasn't good. It was mostly because it didn't look that nice. You need to have better graphics. You could use better shading too. It took awhile to get interesting. I didn't care much for the story.

At least the music was nice. Wow, you created a lot just for this game. It does seem massive. It just isn't appealing to me. At least it wasn't insulting.

About the graphics, I totally agree with you. Unfortunatly, nobody in the team is a professional graphist. I will probably concentrate in less graphical-dependent projects in the near future.
I'm glad you liked the music, even if I'm not totally satisfied with it either.

This game has a lot of potential, but...

1. It's very confusing to navigate the town and understand all the actions. Little guidance on what the buildings do.
2. Very bad "character stat" views that don't tell you much.
3. When I'm fighting, I can't see my current HP (most important item), and when I switch it to that, the view changes after every attack. Annoying.
4. Bad financial system - I'm only shown gross expenses, not net income.

This interface and instructions would need to be vastly improved for me to spend any more time on this.

Thanks for your comment. I agree the game is quite harsh at the beginning, and not as clear as it should be.
About points 1, 2 and 4: you are not the only one telling me this. I will keep that in mind for my next games.
About point 3: I don't see what you mean, I'm pretty sure hit points are visible in the combat mode. Maybe you did not spend your attribute or skill points, in which case the green 'lvl up' tab is shown.

Cool game, really in depth, interesting skills

There's a lot of mechanics that I don't understand though...

How does armor affect elemental resistances?
It seems like 0% piercing resist means that piercing damage is reduced by 100% of your armor, but 0% mental resist means that mental damage is reduced by 0% of armor.

How do weapon masters work?
I made a new game, upgraded tavern and found someone with pedagogy(50% xp boost) and 10 levels in technical trainer(+10% training bonus to def and swift). I promoted him to weapon master and it seems to make no difference at all, my other gladiators did not earn more xp from monsters and they didn't train any faster...

What is "Synthesis of special abilities"?
Does this mean that if you get certain skills they can combine to create special effects? Or does it just list effects you get from your skills? I see some monsters with the ability "Charge (3x damage on first attack)". Is it possible for a gladiator to get this if he picks the right skills?

Bugs/annoyances:

When you have a save and autosave is disabled, and you lose the game, your save gets deleted

When you hire gladiators in the tavern they sometimes have glory, but when they get on the team their glory gets reset to 0

When you save the game and a gladiator has progress towards the next glory, like "2 victories till next glory", and you load the save, the progress is gone and it says "4 victories till next glory"

When you level up, the button to level up skills covers up the "Skill management" button which shows you what skills you already have, so I have to change tabs to look at my current skills, and then click many times to get back to the level up tab to level up my skills.
Can you make it so that the level up button covers up the "Synthesis of special abilities" button instead of the "Skill management" button? Or make it possible to get from one tab to another directly?

Hi, niteharte. Thank you for your very interesting questions.

1. Armor does not affect elemental resistance. A 3% resist mental means that mental damages you suffer are reduced by 3%. Piercing, blunt and cutting resists function the same way: if you have 3% resist cutting, the cutting incoming damage is reduced by 3%, and then the armor is substracted. As a consequence, if you get 100% cutting resistance, you are imune to cutting damage, no matter your armor.

2. Weapon master help your gladiators to get more experience from fights, if their level is inferior to the master's level. They also help gladiators with training, if they have trained more thant the gladiator in the given characteristic.
=> But after reading your comment, I think I will change the rule, so that a master can train more experienced gladiators, but with a 50% efficiency.

3. Synthesis of special abilities is just a list of effects you get from skills (with modifications for bleeding / ignore armor and armor destruction depending on your weapon). Some abilities like 'charge' can not be learnt because there are no skills to upgrade them... for now. I plan to add a few more skills in the near future, so this might change.

4. Losing save when losing the game is something I shall definitly work on, I will correct it in the next version.

5. In fact, the loss of glory when hiring a gladiator is intentional, but I understand it's not intuitive and can be annoying. I may change it (or at least explain it) in the next patch.

6. Ok, I will correct it in next patch.

7. You're right, I am annoyed myself with this problem, I will do something about it in the next version.
