Reviews for "Murder Dream"

wow, there are almost no horror movies that can scare me, but this made me feel really uneasy. really great work, but could you tell me what those pictures are that are shown for a split second? (i paused at all of them, accept for the one at "i'll cut off his head" because i want to sleep tonight) :P

Anyway, i really like the way the faces are drawn and that dark, freaky that everything is drawn. Nice work!

linda-mota responds:

oh yea that's easy when I used to fuck around tumblr i followed the gore blogs and hardcore porno blogs, who were the nicest people i knew but had the best reference pictures that fill up about 2 USB drives. Also a test with subliminal messaging. a lot of the pics are crime scenes, bondage, and hospital scenes from poor hospitals.

You're getting some rather silly reviews on this video. Some of them commenting on the parts with text, like they've never heard of a silent movie. I thought it was pretty good. I love stuff about dreams and I think the dream where we've murdered someone and have to hide the evidence is a fairly common one albeit a very distressing one. Well done.

linda-mota responds:

I was talking about it with a friend and I swear some people are really weird with stuff and taking it seriously. I knew like 3 people who had murder dreams, I don't know the detail for it though.

If I were your teacher, I'd give you an F since you thought these "animated" loops, each with only three frames of animation, make for a passable presentation. To be more in depth, tilting pages so the frames will sync in the proper positions without trying to hide it harms the presentation even further. No, it does not lend to the "honesty" of the artist, it lends to the idea that you're an amateur. Even better is that despite you tilting the pages together so they'd match, the characters still dance about the screen as they sit still, most notable of which being the cyclops.

Another sign of excellence is the constantly changing aspect ratio between the chicken scratch loops and dialog cards.

Speaking of the dialog cards, if not for them, I'd have no idea what was going on. You are completely lacking in the ability to convey anything using sequential art. If I were you, I'd fire your art teacher for his negligence.

linda-mota responds:

I'd be an F if I was in school for animation, though you are indeed right I am an amateur with animation. This was an excuse to slime into the creepjam, but it was fun. If I was toting this particular short around as the epitome of my body of work you have every right to call me the F student. Thank you for giving your time, but I think this stuff should be reserved for more serious stuff going after more respect.

3 jpgs on a loop until the next 3 jpgs are looped. This is faux animation to a T. For an added bonus if you have to give me context with text in a short clip to tell me what's going on because we wouldn't be able to tell from the pictures you might want to rethink what you're showing us. Strip the text and the title I suddenly have no clue to what the video is about.

Even with context given by you? I'm still confused. Did you eat him at 20 seconds in to commit the murder? Are these drawings supposed to be humans? I mean I can understand artistic vision and freedom to portray anything how you want; however there needs to be a method to the madness. What the method is here I'm unsure due to aforementioned reasons along with a myriad of others. Despite all the above the music is generally creepy and something I'd expect to hear in a horror indie game or something of similar nature.

linda-mota responds:

The guy who makes the music does really cool stuff I love it a lot. I don't really claim to be an animator, and try now and then with frame by frame as a challenge. To lay claim as an animator would be disingenuous on my part, but in that lies the challenge of putting vague memories from dreams into movable chicken scratch(for me personally). Though I think people are taking this short thing I put together in a few days a bit too seriously. I have much more worthwhile work, but thank you for giving the time to look at it.

Your artwork reminds me of Theonewithoutaname. Wait a minute, that is you! I guessed you changed your name, in every sense of the word. Anyway, this was pretty nice. I will admit it was kind of crudely put together. It's just a bunch of random drawings.

They're still pretty nice. I've just seen you do much better. This has been a good jam. You can do anything with scariness. Is that even a word?

linda-mota responds:

THAT'S ME! HOLY HELL I remember you! Been awhile! I just changed my username to my real name because I was 17/18 when I made this and it needed a better name! lol. Oh yea it is crude. I have teh notebooks of where I drew each panel of scratchy animation. Getting the heng of it though it's more experimental it's still fun, getting more confident with doing more than 3-4 panel loops of animation. Thank you for the kind words though it's a slow process getting back into this but glad people are giving their 2 cents! :)
