Reviews for "A Matter of Caos: Episode 4"

you deserve an award for this !! well done !!!!!

ExperaGameStudio responds:

*_* YOU deserve an award for making us blush! ^///^

A high quality follow-up to the previous episodes, well done! The musical choice was excellent and very fitting. The game design is good in terms of avoiding pixel hunting though clearly some people will be left unsatisfied by the graphics.

The hints available from clicking on "my thoughts" were perhaps a little too generous, if anything, but I think it's not great design that the "examine" mechanic is absolutely critical to *one* section of play, but nowhere else (as far as I can see). You can get very deep into the game without ever using it, or even knowing that it's there, so having a story element that relies on using it might be frustrating for players who didn't spot it. I'm not a fan of having a whole game mechanic which is extremely powerful for just one specific task - I think it makes sense to introduce all the mechanics early (by making the first tasks in the game almost tutorial-like if necessary) and use them every once in a while to build up a player's intuition for them.

The quality of the English used in the script-writing was poor compared to the quality of the storyline and plot itself, but I think this is an issue the creators are aware. One thing I thought was incongruous was the level of swearing in this episode (up to an uncensored f-word) which seemed rather out of place, and not consistent with the rest of the series. There's hardly even any mild vulgarity that I remember, whereas this episode - on a few occasions - really steps it up a notch. I'm not sure it adds anything to the game.

There is one minor graphical glitch that bugged me - in the final sections of the game, your "monster for the night" (the disguised assistant) should appear ... in disguise. But during dialogue, he is undisguised. In contrast, Gilbert correctly dons his disguise where it is appropriate.

Thank you for your feedback! :) We see what you mean about the "examine" issue; we could say it was something we didn't think about long enough then, but we surely learnt the lesson. About the grammar, as you guessed, we already know it's not quite good. Sadly, we couldn't afford a professional English proof reader (none of us is a native English speaker BTW), but, for our next adventure, a great kickstarter project to fund a new AMOC adventure, we'll hire some professional help about that! About the "excessive swearing", we didn't remember such a suddn increase, maybe it was just a coincidence - the "wrong" character at the wrong time, maybe. About the graphic glitch, well, you got us :D sorry, it was just a minor distraction, we'll fix it ASAP. Thank you again and if you liked AMOC follow us maybe! Have a great day and keep having fun!
