Reviews for "Afterwards"

A Masterpeice

Sorry to waste review space saying this, but it's very important to me. Arvin, this is...well I'd prefer not to disclose my name to the freaks of Newgrounds for fear of getting shot in my own home (haha) but I corresponded with you in diary form about a year ago. Could you please inform me of your current email? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

As for a review, this is and always will be a masterpiece in my eyes.

Hmmmmm...

The elements may have had an involvment but I'm assuming that that wasn't an intentional thing.

The way I see it is he's on a plane drawing something. In his imagination he finds himself going into a nice restaraunte (or what have you) and waiting for that 'special someone.' He makes everything perfect, and waits.

The butterfly getting caught in the flame, I believe, somehow symbolizes that his vision won't end well.

He see's his love coming in, and she walks over to him. They share a small conversation and begin dancing.

As the time goes, they eventually tire of this, and sit down. They share a passionate kiss which brings them closer in their relationship. However like with the butterfly, the dream is struck down as he realizes it's only a dream. However he writes , "Save this for afterwards." on the drawing to maybe see if he'll have a relationship with a similar event, perhaps?

Or maybe he's going to see someone and he sees this event taking place while in this relationship.

This could be interpreted in many different ways, so it's really quite difficult to say which is truly right (well for the reviewers anyway. You made it so you know what the point is and what not.)

However whether I got it right or not, it's still a nice piece and very well done. Keep up the good work with these.

rvyn responds:

The earlier part is a little off, but your interpretation of the ending is closer than most people's interpretations. as far as the moth/butterfly is concerned, think icarus. i left the moth's ultimate fate a little ambiguous (though not overtly) so depending on the viewer's mood, that moth either dies or lives. Thanks a lot for the review and I appreciate you taking your time watching.

Special thx to : Sarah... Because AH! LOVE!

Here it goes with my personnal interpretation of this master-piece.

I noticed the representation of the 4 elements
-Air: butterfly
-Fire: candle
-Water: glass of water
-Earth: with the plant
I don't know what it means, but I noticed it

Also, I think the guy in the plane is imaginating a scene where he meets the girl he love and we they spent a wonderful night, but then he realyse that it is just a dream and the girl evapore. The death of the insect represent the end of the guys hopes, then he write write Afterwards on his drawing which means ....... I have absolutly no idea what all this mean, but I liked it and it was indeed visually astonishing.

rvyn responds:

The elements thing is... damn, that's really deep. Wow... hell, I'm impressed, but sadly I can't say I thought that far ahead. But wow... I bow down to THAT interpretation (you just beat the previous deepest interpretation). The more plot based interpretation is much closer, although there were some more concrete symbolism that you didn't exactly get... but so far, it's a pretty good interpretation. I always thought it was simple, I don't know why people say it makes no sense...

Nice work

I wonder if I could get a better explanation on it's meaning.

rvyn responds:

It's really up to public interpretation, but if anybody cares to review this movie in the future with their own interpretation of it, I will tell them how close they are.

...

looks fucking amazing... a tad boring, i have a short attention span, but it looks so fucking good, it doesnt matter. nice work.
