Reviews for "Fathom"

Seriusly tutorial level force field turret is op but the game is awesome.

Nice mechanics and music. But I did'n really like the map.

Somehow, i played this 3 times! AMAZING, and catchy music too!

Judging it, totally based on it being created in 72 hours for Ludum Dare, you can tell that most of the time was invested in interesting gameplay, rather than long gameplay.
It was a very interesting game concept, something I. for myself. can not find in any other game I've played on NG before.
I might be wrong of course, in that case I'm sorry, but I regularly use this website since 2003, although this account was created later on and I haven't come across an anti-gravity-bullet-physics (???) game in this style so far and I just LOVE when people put their thoughts into a game, this guy must be a total nerd, I love it.
It seems like the Author had this idea on his mind for a long time already and this was the perfect opportunity for a little project to show off creativity and talent in offering quality gameplay.
Yes, it was short but we have a saying in Germany, which goes: "Qualität statt Quantität" (Quality instead of quantity) and this pretty much proves it, also I'm kind of into pixels so this was a definite plus for me, loved the music aswell.

This was made for Ludlum Dare under tight time constraints, and I'll judge it accordingly.

That means: I'm rating it very highly despite a few things, like that it's a bit short (if you make a full game, it'll be longer), and the zooming in is annoying when you lose track of the bullets (you'll certainly fix that), or that there was no penalty for using your time-slow continuously to get past almost every obstacle (pretty sure you'll limit it). Even the lack of a real storyline doesn't bother me.

I'm rating it so highly because, fundamentally, this is an *awesome* game with exceptionally good production values compared to other Ludlum Dare entries.

The mechanic of turning bullets with your mind is great; it adds a lot of challenge, it's beautifully implemented (earlier gripes aside) and, above all, you feel genuinely EPIC. The hero looks so damn bad ass calmly watching as they turn the bullet inches from their face, it's like a superhero movie come to life. I'm guessing that's part of why you have the zoom effect, aside from it being an aid to aiming.

I love the pixel art; simple, but very effective. The music seems a bit rushed---probably because it is!---but is nevertheless pretty effective.

In short, I love this game. It's a fantastic LD entry, and a great start to what I'm certain will be a superb and compelling game with a story to match. Bravo!
