Reviews for "Partner Theme (1f1n1ty Remix)"

The words I want to say to express my feelings on this piece do not exist. Seriously. There is just so much variety, so many effects, so much traveling around - I can tell without your lengthy exposition that you put in a lot of hard work into this. IMHO, this deserves at 5/5 from me.

Just a little bit of technical opinion though - At 100%, I did still get some clipping that results in some distortion. It's a personal preference of mine to listen to awesome music at 100% even if most people keep their master at or around 60%. You really shouldn't be afraid of the hard limiter during mastering, while some algorithms are notoriously deficient, others really don't degrade your sound that much. I use Audacity when mastering my music, and I always start off with a hard limit down to -5 or -6db to smooth out the spikes so that I don't wind up with clipping after I compress, equalize and/or normalize. Just don't do it after you compress. Alternately, you can make sure when you're rendering to jack up your master to 100% and keep the peak at about -5 or -6db, then you won't need to hard limit at all. Hope that helps!

Wow, thanks for the review!

As for the mastering part, for this track I did basically no mastering. I left the default Fruity Limiter on the master and that was it. :/ It's just my inability to master well makes it so that the Fruity Limiter sounds better than anything I can conjure. About the hard limiter, a lot of people in past reviews have told me that hard limiting is really noticeable. It's not something I hear, because I kinda suck, but most people tell me it's really bad. Maybe it's the algorithm. I don't know. :/

Thanks for reviewing! I appreciate feedback. :)

This is so awesome. You really did the processing extremely well. Those sounds came out just perfect. That bass in the beginning in combination with the kick is beautiful. In my opinion the song is very loudly mastered, but on the other hand... it doesn't deprive the feeling of the song...

The only thing that bothers me a bit is what you wanted to achieve while making the song. I can't really determine whether it should be used in a game, or listened to as a trance song. The drops belong in a song, the rest belongs in a game, I think.

Whatever, I just love it. I'm wondering how a non-remix trance track with clear snare drums would sound. It must be epic :D

Onefin responds:

Thanks for the review, amigo!

Loudly mastered, eh? Would it surprise you to know I did no mastering on this track? ...No? Alright. The only thing on my master is that Fruity Limiter thing which I know a lot of professional producers really, really hate. If I turned off the Fruity Limiter and actually tried to master, I'd only make the track even louder than it is now, and there would be clipping everywhere and I would be a sad bunny. :(

What did I want to achieve? I wanted to achieve a display of my emotion towards PSMD and its soundtrack! The reason I remix Pokemon Mystery Dungeon is not for appreciation as an individual track, but to show my appreciation for the game, its emotion, and its soundtrack and to attempt to inspire that appreciation in other people. Noble goal, isn't it? ...No?

Non-remix trance track with clear snare drums? Can you clarify what that means? XD

Thanks for taking the time to review! Feedback is appreciated. ;)

Yay the partner theme I love my partner and I think this song is amazing 2:04 I cried;-; the story of the game makes this song so much better :D

Onefin responds:

Haha, I bet you didn't recognize the song playing in the very beginning of the track. You'll get there, don't worry.

PSMD's plot is truly one of its most resounding features. It's complexity gives it breadth, and the presentation is magnificent, despite some flaws. It's a truly memorable story. :)

Glad you liked my remix!
