I think the moral of the story here is that if Half-Life were an NES game, it wouldn't work very well. At least, not if it was trying to be a literal 1-to-1 copy of the original. The pacing of the original works well because it is immersive. This is not immersive; it is extremely slow, with flashing floor tiles and others that look like they should be a wall. You're obviously a talented game maker, perhaps you should apply those skills to making something better suited for the medium? There are so many stories that can be told in the HL universe, there must be at least one that's actually fun to play in this style.
