Reviews for "Retroacan"

I'll sum up my opinion now. Meh. I think this game isn't that fun, unlike most people. First of all, the 'olde school' look and feel has been done millions of times before, and many times been done better! Mobile games like KatataK are retro themed, but I feel this game is just retro for the sake of it. Along with annoying keyboard control, some features unexplained, repetitive music, and the garbled non-native English make this a boring, rough slog to play through.

When somebody promises me an old school platform game, it'd better be really good. First, I played enough 8-bit and 16-bit classics in my time. Second, I encountered too many games which tried to play on my nostalgia, but ultimately proved to be failure. My point is, if somebody is trying to make a retro game, he should be creative and make it with a twist. 'Cart Life" would be the best example I can think of right now.

'Retroacan' stands somewhere in the middle. Yes, I can really appreciate the pixel graphics, smooth animation and neat chip-tune, but after a while the taste becomes bland. Except some references to a town I've never heard about, there is nothing which would make this game stand out from the faux-retro crowd. It's like we still were stuck in the 90's.

Hell, I will replay it a few times anyway, just for the medals.

Mid-air control is just idiotic, just like the mechanics of falling down the platforms.

There is an unnecessary amount of ad presence in this game. It could be fun, maybe, with a bit more work- a scoring system, weapon upgrades, sound effects when you're damaged, things like that would go a long way to improve this game... but the persistent ad interruptions will prevent it from becoming engaging on any meaningful level. Strip back the ads to appear only at the beginning of the game and rethink the constant billboards in the background.
