Reviews for "Idle Evolution"

Fun but you can cheat by forwarding time. Maybe sync up with a server somewhere.

I love it, one of the best idle games I've played, I particularly like that it doesn't require clicking, just mousing over. I do have a few minor complaints and suggestions that I think could help improve the game. I've completed the game and just finishing up the last two exams.

1. The life bonuses are cool, but I'd love to be able to switch them around. The first couple I selected, I didn't quite understand what the bonus did and later I would have liked to have changed it. It would also be cool if I could change it based upon what Exam or level bonus I'm working on. For instance, since one of the two remaining medals I need is for clicking on molecules, it would be cool to change the bonuses so that they show up more to finish that.

2. When I go to Amount or Exchange I can see the labels on the elements, but not on the main game screen, Capacity, or Knowledge (until 100%). It would be helpful if it were a little easier to identify the various elements in all phases of the game, maybe just a faded out chemical symbol or whatever.

3. As a minor complaint, the bouncing around just isn't the greatest mechanic. Sometimes I'm trying to align the extractors carefully, like for the 6 extractor achievement, or trying to compact as many under the circle as possible, and they need to be pretty much pixel perfect, but that just adds frustration. Maybe just make it so it bounces around if it's not exactly right when I let go, but not while I'm trying to position it.

4. Final minor complaint, not all the medals seems to be working. I'm only missing 2 Exams, only one of which is a medal, but I'm still missing 13 medals, so at least 12 of them aren't working. Those seem to be "24 Hours", "1+1=10", Analyzing, Compulsive, Hidden, Multiethnic, Play It Safe, Rich, Secret, Segregation, Shutdown, Tight, Traveler.

Again, overall, awesome job. I look forward to seeing more of your work in the future.

NewProject responds:

1) Pending ... with low priority :( will take some time to see it.
2) I take note. Add symbol in capacity seems good idea. But be able to always view the elements I discarded it in alpha versions.
3) In a casual game like this, you need challenges :P
4) You try the newgrounds icon in main menu? You must see medals 1 by 1. If this don't work pm me.
(Wait some seconds before click, and refresh web to see medals unlocked.)

Ive just about finished the game (i.e. gotten to the last time period) and i think the strong points of the game have been covered by others, so id like to share some issues I had with the game.
1. The last third of the game takes forever. Ive spent a week leaving the game idling when i go shower/pee/whatever, as well as when i watch youtube videos, take a deep breath, etc. Even then, the last few levels are just ridiculous. Same goes for the level-up requirements, which similarly take way too long to achieve much of the time.
2. Too many of the elements are useless. Really, all you need is Oxygen, Nitrogen, Carbon, and Hydrogen to make most of the important elements.
3. The bonus molecules that would pop up didnt really help that much, even when I upgraded it. On the same note, grouping more than one extractor on an element helped very little
4. There's too much clicking to level up the natural selection thing. Near the end, i was clicking probably 100 times just to gain 1%. Its really obvious, and a bit sneaky, in my opinion, that you make the requirement to level up one percentage point grow almost exponentially every time another percentage point is gained.
5. This is a nitpick, but some sort of guide would be helpful, especially since your descriptions for molecules just link to wikipedia. I forgot, after week 3 of playing this game, of what the spinning yellow circle even did. It doesnt seem to increase effectiveness of extractors much, thats for sure.

I understand that this is an "idle game," but you seem to have focused too much on longevity. I guess that's important, for keeping users playing and all, and I understand that, but you took it too far in that direction. An idle game should have a feeling of constant progress that the player has a direct hand in, and while you do accomplish this, I still felt like I was grinding, just to get to the grinding (i.e., completing the level ups, so I could grind for the next life stage).

My suggestion would be to take it in a more academic direction. Make it so that the player is learning while playing the game, about different elements/molecules, as well as time periods. Lastly, loosen up the requirements for everything. As it is, the game drags on for about two weeks after it becomes tiresome.

NewProject responds:

1) It's an idle game, then play it in idle is... normal.
2) As in the real world?
3) Perhaps this is the reason took you so long in the endgame. It is essential to have formations of elements. 2 extractors produce twice and click a molecule multiply again its production.
4) You can hold mouse, you don't need to click (natural selection and learn buttons).
5) Config -> stats -> page 3: you have a log with all tutorials.

Pretty good AFK type of game, but I still don't understand what mutation and rare gene do in evolution.
Would be helpful if there was a help section kinda thing.

NewProject responds:

The mutations and rare genes are good for evolution.

Hey...good game. Sent quite some time with it now, but cant seem to get 6 extractors into 1 Element. This is the best i can come up with:

As you can see the 2 extractors highlighted in red are perfectly aligned. The lower one is even more inside because the upper on leaves the top border. Still it wont extract. If tried this for a while now. I know it is possible...i just think my "constellation" should work too.

NewProject responds:

802 users can do it.
I don't know all tactics they used. The way I do it is keep the center clean.
In your picture I'm surprised that you would have marked the top 3.
