Reviews for "ThisActuallyHappensALot"

Very unique animation, rather enjoyed the music and art too. Also, very interesting story about an awkward guy at a party, that doesn't seem too reaching.

Very nice stylized animation, and very smooth, kinda reminded me of the calvin and hobbes when he gets stuck on the ceiling but i know that was not the point of it. this probably hits home with a lot of introverts

Great, just great. Keep up the good work.

It is going to be hard to express how awesome I think this animation is, but I'll give it a go. I'll separate it into five categories, Writing, Art, Animation, Sound & Music, and my overall opinion on this submission.

Writing-The story is marvelous, because it communicates so much in such a short amount of time. Social anxiety, shyness, understanding, pity, self-pity, kindness, selfishness, and selflessness are all examples of very real human mentalities when it comes to socializing that are expressed within just a little over three minutes of this animation. Many animators and other story tellers envy the talent to possess so much meaning in their art.

Art-The art in this film is fantastic. Everything from the color, lines, shading, and the style are gorgeous. The lines look scratchy, like they were done with colored pencils, giving it a child-like charm. The use of complimentary and analogous colors creates harmony that evokes warmth. This shows an understanding of color theory, especially on the main characters. The colors barely fit within the boundaries of their lines, and this very well fits the style. The movie feels like it's in this sensual realm of emotion, allowing you to empathize with the characters better.

Animation-The animation in this is very smooth and stretchy. Natural physics do not seem to apply, as the boy character can float in the air, or stick to walls. The characters move at a sluggish speed, but move rapidly when necessary. This helps set the content, and allows you to easily relate to both the boy's anxiety, and the girl's pity.

Sound & Music-The sound and music is amazing. The upbeat party music immediately tells me what kind of environment the scene will take place in. It also automatically makes me feel grand. The blues/jazz music at the end also help sets the tone. The voice acting is vivid, the voices are soft and comprehensible. The sound effects fit in when used, and help show the impact of each persons' interaction with their environment. Even small details, like that Gabe guy clicking the keyboard, contributed well to the overall immersion of the work.

I realize that a lot of what I've said is bias and based on how I feel, but I did try to base it off things evident in the movie. I obviously enjoyed this short, and I really hope to see more from Thomas Law and all of the other participants in the future. :)

When you say it happens a lot, do you mean the floating or flying into people? lol
