Reviews for "Bullets & Beats DEMO"

From the get go I loved the look of this game. 8-bit has always been a favorite style of mine. Main character and enemy animation is smooth; I especially love the reload animation. Overall gameplay is decent (hopefully you guys will add in an upgrade feature to go with the money that is collected) and the luck system is useful, except when a seemingly harmless bullet flies up to hit the character, but checkpoints are abundant, so it wasn't too much of a gripe. Levels during the nighttime, different locations ect. would be welcome for the full game, as well as lengthier levels. Can't judge this too harshly because it's a demo, but my main concern is the music. For a game centered around Bullets and BEATS, the music quality was poor and after the first level I turned off the sound. There are plenty hip-hop artists on this site that would be more than happy to contrube, if only asked . That aside, I really look forward to the finished product, it's great seeing good games on Newgrounds.

Thanks for your feedback! Yes we've also heard from other that a upgrade system would help the game :) (we actually have a slot-machine which you can use with the money collected (but its not done yet)). We also want to add different kinds of levels (like nighttime and such) to the game, so good point.

Yes, the name Bullets & beats might not be the best name for this game, we weren't really sure how to currently call it (it was named 'LuckyGame' before so.. ^^). And thanks for the suggestion on the music part, we will take note of it!

And ofcourse, glad you liked it :)

A good concept, but needs work

duckbridge responds:

Hey thanks! Are there any specific parts of the game that need work the most? :)

Alright, so I didn't play it past 60 seconds. Though in this time I was super frustrated by the graphics, the dangers in the level aren't clear enough. The controls feel slow and cumbersome.
I'd suggest you don't waste your time.

duckbridge responds:

Hey, sorry you didn't like it. What frustrated you the most by the graphics? And the dangers in the levels is a good point We've heard that before! Do you have any suggestions for the controls? :)

Neat Idea, but I found a few things that could be touched up. First, in the menu, you give instructions. One of which are the alternate keys for "jump". When it says "press jump to continue," the only key that works is the space bar, so maybe replace "jump to continue" with "space to continue". I also ran over to the left immediately starting the game, and tried to jump, and fell into that hole. With the sea to it's left. Maybe make a more visible way to show what pits look like, rather than just trial and error. I got whomped by a couple of windmills and took damage, losing hearts, but I'd also randomly get the red borders of the screen as though I was getting hurt, even with nothing going on. Also, what's the deal with those tiny slug pixelly things that run off into pits with 3 red pixels by their heads? Do they hurt you? I can't shoot them.

duckbridge responds:

Thanks for your feedback! Yes the point that you made about the menu is spot on! And we've heard that the pits aren't very visible so we'll work on that! Yes the red border indicate that an 'unlucky' event happened, but we need to explain this (we're also planning to!)

Haha, the small things are 'snakes' you cannot really hit them, only with 'Golden' bullets (which you get with Luck). But! Your duck friend can kill them for you (if you're lucky). And the snakes only attack you if you're unlucky :)

Completed the demo and enjoyed it.

Pros:
- sounds: shooting and realoading is quite fun because of the great sound fx
- graphics do the job

Cons:
- jumping is frustrating
- level design: you cannot see where there is supposed to be a hole
- enemies take insane amounts of shots to kill
- hip-hop and western? come on!

duckbridge responds:

Hey thanks, yes all your points are valid :) we've takes notes of it. Haha you don't like our combination of hip-hop & western :)?
