Reviews for "GunMission"

This game screams early 90's arcade shooter / platformer, awesome!
Going straight to my favorites in fact.
As demicrown mentioned, it's reminiscent of Rolling Thunder, and perhaps a bit of the Elevator Action sequel. Good stuff.
I did find a little glitch when as soon as you fire when crouching, and immediately press the opposite direction, the bullet and bullets you fire afterward project behind you. It's even more fun to do whilst standing because Agent Ruby does a little Gumby slide afterward ;D
Anyway, this is a great game, and I hope you decide to make a sequel down the road.
Keep up the great work!

RyThom responds:

Thank you very much! Yes, the sequel is in the works...after I get that crouching/shooting glitch taken care of ;)

Great game. Better than that only playing it in a real arcade machine.

RyThom responds:

I'd love to see somebody booting this in a MAME cabinet!

Cool game. It's Contra meets Rolling Thunder. But it does get repetitive after a bit. Needs more variation in enemies, weapons, and missions to get a full fourth star.

RyThom responds:

Thank you! Contra meets Rolling Thunder is pretty much what I was going for, maybe with a dash of Shinobi, haha. With all this feedback I'm now incredibly inspired to get GunMission 2 into development that will include more enemies (including ones that take multiple hits), different weapons, and mission objectives.

I always prefer ASDW controls over arrows, which is a common alternative. I don’t know why X was used for jumping instead of W, but it was awkward enough that I opted for arrow controls instead.

The controls need some work. It isn’t possible to crouch and then shoot in the opposite direction. The character will face both directions while crouched, but shoot only in the direction she was facing when entering the crouch. This results in backward shooting, and requires standing to aim the other way.

A similar result occurs at the beginning of stages. The character begins facing the right. If the left arrow is held, starting before the character is free to move, she will walk backward to the left.

I also found it odd that leaving the top of the screen causes death and a level restart. This occurred on level 8 at the 1up.

RyThom responds:

Thanks so much for your comment! You articulated the issues very clearly! I was not aware it was possible to kill yourself near the 1up - thanks! I will address all of the issues you stated in an update.

And congrats for making it to Level 8!

old school hard core, only distraction is the sound effect, cannot stop laughing at dat scream

RyThom responds:

Thank you! Haha, the screams are pretty ridiculous, eh? :D
