Sadly, it's less about needing something and more about the possible problems a sequel could cause (big IP owners are a lot more trigger-happy these days). Though if I ever were financially stable enough to make risking it getting slapped down viable, I'd consider it, for sure.
Either that or we'll wait until MLP falls into public domain. I'm sure my grandchildren will be alive by then... Maybe.
