A relic of bygone days. While I'm here paying my respects, I may as well type out a review for -this- version of the game.
The breeding mechanics were better before the rework, in my opinion. I remember it being unintuitive, but once you figured out how everything worked, you could breed some monsters with absolutely insane stats and modifiers. I'm talking green +'s across the board, and basically every trait in the book. I remember -that- playthrough got absolutely trashed because of one monster gaining that inverter trait (misanthrope?), and subsequently spreading it to the monster I'd been using to breed everything else. Good times.
That's more or less what was missing from the later versions of the game. It was aesthetically appealing, but it felt dumbed down compared to this and earlier versions. You couldn't absolutely break things with unhealthy amounts of dedication and 'hard work'.
Only other bitch I have is consumables. They never really felt all that useful. But whatever; it's water under the bridge.
(Also more of a fan of the kinda half-assed-looking artstyle.)
Rest in peace, old friend. Maybe someday you'll be free of development purgatory, but I won't hold my breath.
Can't say I care for the newer version. The art is just terrible now, like a child colored in the overly thick or none existent lineart in MSPaint. You really undercut your own art skills. Don't care for the new internal pens, I actually liked knowing which one was which at a glance. Still wanting to see pen size upgrades. Don't care if its expensive as fuck. I'd just like to be able to hold more than 5 of something at one point without exploiting a bug for when I go all breeder to try and merge looks colors to create a specific end creature.
Not much else to say since its still on the ground floor and in an art transition. Don't forget to update your tutorial for the newer players for the new HUDs.
Strange how it gives you all these options at the start, but when I select homosexual only, I zero cut scenes and it just tells me I've harvested a consumable.
