Reviews for "One of Those Days"

The moment I heard that piano I knew I would love this piece.
I was not wrong.
In fact, far from it.

You're great at singing, dude! I've heard you sing earlier in Ceevro's collabs, but you sound wonderful on your own as well :3
One could say you... Own, on your own ;)
Sorry for that, it's late :p

But yeah. The piano is brilliant. It sounds like an upright, it's catchy, it's jazzy, it's rhythmic. What else does one need?
Perhaps some good singing.
The melody is awesome, and really fits the entire theme.

The lyrics are very well written too. I'm a sucker for somewhat darker tracks, and this one gets that feel through in a very nice way.

Oh, and 1:56 is a cool touch!

I think you have a good chance of making it to the next round with a piece as good as this :)
Great job, and good luck ;)

ChronoNomad responds:

Woo! Now that's a review that's music to my ears, Lucid. ^__~

I'm really glad to hear that your initial perception was far from being incorrect! I'll admit it, I was kind of nervous about submitting something like this. No matter how hard I try to fight it, that whole "not good enough" mentality sneaks into my brain and messes around with me. So far, it does seem to be pretty well received, and that's a real relief.

Well shoot, thank you! I'm no etherealwinds, but I can carry a tune. And apparently write a song or two. Who knew? I'm really happy that you liked the whole thing, especially the vocals. And the jazzy piano. And the lyrics in general, dark as they are. Oh, and that fun little section at 1:56!

The song may be melancholic and depressing, but my smile right now is anything but! You've bolstered my confidence and hey--who knows? Maybe I have a shot at getting past the Group Stage this year. We shall see! Goodness knows the other three fellows in my group are insanely talented musicians in their own right. But hey, that's what an Audio Deathmatch is all about!

Thanks again! I truly appreciate that you took the time to leave a review, and oh man...so many stars. This experience is always humbling in so many ways. :)

This is a very good song man!

I'm very fan of the piano, especially the impromptu sounding jumps. Very nice voice as well.
I don't have any critique here actually, keep doing what you do, its wonderful!

ChronoNomad responds:

Wow, thanks a bunch, lordedri! I've really been looking forward to your submission, so I hope you'll be releasing it soon!

As a huge fan of the piano myself, I can totally get behind that. I love making stuff like this, especially when people actually seem to enjoy it! That gets me pumped up all over again, and hearing that folks like my voice just plain makes me smile. Many thanks! Best of luck to you and...stop sitting on that entry! ^__~ lol

I listened to this on the way to the gym!
It was a terrible, terrible workout.

But this was stuck in my head the entire time. Excellent piano, beautiful vocals. Very reminiscent of 30s blues.

I'd recommend using a lot more breath support behind your voice. You have a great sound, but you're holding back to fit the mood of the piece. Even singing something like this, it's always important to have plenty of breath, and plenty of energy in your voice.

Great submission, brotha. I hope to see you in the next round. :)

ChronoNomad responds:

Thanks a lot, Jacob! Sorry to hear that your workout was so terrible, but I guess if you had to have a song stuck on repeat in your head at the time, this one would be rather appropriate.

Very pleased indeed to get such a positive review and helpful feedback from a guy who sings vocals on a regular basis! Yeah, this kind of piece always makes me think back to the music of the roaring 20s and 30s. I was actually a little torn with the overall genre since the piano is so very Jazzy, while the lyrics themselves are much more Bluesy in nature. Suffice to say, I am overjoyed that you feel the elements work well together! :D

I really appreciate the advice, and yeah...I was purposefully holding back a bit to tap into the mood of the piece. Unfortunately, I am also coming (very slowly) off a very nasty Summer cold, so my lung capacity is crappy right now. Your words could not be truer, but I found a good space to record lyrics when the neighborhood was quiet, so I jumped on it. Nevertheless, I could have waited a few days longer to see if there would be more improvement in my condition and ability to belt out strong vocals. Hopefully it won't be too damaging in the long run.

Many thanks, my man! Hope to see you there, too. Can't wait to hear what you come up with!

I can dig it man. Keep up the awesome. :)

ChronoNomad responds:

Right on! Thanks for the sweet props, V. I'm on it. Stay frosty, bro.

This is groovy as hell.

Can't really bring any critique to the table.

Really love the occasional rhythmic intricacies in the vocals. The piano is bliss. The vocals are expressive. Great stuff!

ChronoNomad responds:

Many thanks, LunyAlex! I'm glad that you dig the bluesy vocals, jazzy piano, and overall vibe. It's really awesome to know that the vocal rhythm changes can be appreciated without any assumption that the phrasing is mistimed. Here's hoping that the judges dig it, too. Best of luck to you in Group L!
