Reviews for "Cathode Raybits"

Excellent game, as always. You make some of the best games on the site. Good thing you get unlimited continues though because there are some bad glitch bugs in this one so minus half a star for that.

My first life I lost? Due to changing to a new screen but game placing my character wrongly and then instant death from a pit that shouldn't have even been possible to get to. That's a pretty nasty glitch bug!

SinclairStrange responds:

Eep, sorry about the bug, hopefully it's fixed now. It never occurred when playtesting but I know what might of caused it, so I fixed it up. (I've tested again and it seems fine.)

I just wish I had another week or two, to really polish it up, but sadly it wasn't the case. Maybe next time, I'll give myself some time haha.

Simply amazing Pico Day entry, MegaMan style!
Everything flows really nicely, and it's a fine homage to the beloved franchise.
It's easy to tell that a lot of work went into this.
There are a few things that could be smoothed out a little, and those additional levels and mini bosses you mentioned would have been cool, but altogether this is a lot of fun.
I did find a glitch in the first level in the room right before the boss however.
When switching rooms from the second to last to the one before the boss, sometimes it puts me under the floor and causes me to fall off the screen.
Anyway, other than that, I really enjoyed this, thanks for the medals, and I hope you make more games like this down the road.
Keep up the amazing work!

SinclairStrange responds:

Thanks! Sorry about the bug, it never happened to me during playtesting but I believe I might know what caused it, so hopefully I've fixed it. (I've tested three times and I've not fallen through yet through the whole stage.)

It's always the case with needing more time sadly, however if I ever make a sequel, at least I've already got the foundations, so I can spend more time, patching/updating the game to make it better! Glad you enjoyed :)

This is amazing. Absolutely amazing. It's a Megaman clone but a good one. I'm really impressed. You have really managed to catch the feeling with all of controls, graphics and music.

There's one thing though. Since you are copying Megaman you've set the standard to be compared with. As you probably are aware of, you are nowhere near. :)

I don't wanna insult you, cause the work you have done is marvelous. It's extremely impressive, but when playing I can't avoid comparing all the time, making it hard to judge the game on its own. You have really managed to make the music sound like Megaman. If i heard these tunes on their own my immediate thought would be "is there a Megaman game I have not played", but they are not as good as the original. It's hard to pinpoint what it is though.

Quite often I get irritated because some things differ to much from Megaman. One can argue about this, but I think some of those things should be fixed. One of those is that the main character does not pause when picking up a power up, and make the fill up take more time.

I'm using this one while playing http://www.coolstuff.se/Retro-NES-USB-kontroll?gclid=CPm4rc-k_70CFUQGcwodGUUAcA

Bug!
A quite annoying thing is that when i hold left or right when entering a new screen I have to release the button to continue moving.

All in all. Great work!

ToneBest100: Ever heard of the term "tribute"?

SinclairStrange responds:

Aye, there is some stuff that's not exact, some being intentional and some due to flash being not. The bug with the screen was something I was going to iron out if given more time but sadly I didn't have that. The health pick up, I was torn between having the pause and having it not pause and I opted in the end not to have the pause due to it being a flash and not an exact Mega Man tribute. Originally there was different life counters and weapon screens but I ended up changing to what we have now just 'cause I was playing Mega Man at the time and I thought it would be cool.

I should of set more time for the game in hindsight (this was three weeks work) but if I ever plan to make a sequel, at least I have the basis for the next engine so I can spend the time fixing things that need fixing :). In a way, it's a bit like Mega Man 1 haha.

Glad you enjoyed the game :)

i lieks it :)

SinclairStrange responds:

Thanks :)

Complete ripoff of Megaman

SinclairStrange responds:

Well duh, that's the point.
