Yeah I'll confirm that it's very possible to beat anybody without blocking or evading. I've never had evade work, actually!
I'm lvl. 27, arcane armor, recursive bow, water spell. I held down attack until I took some damage, but before the final boss started spellcasting. I then used up all my water spell magic, then just switched back to regular attacks - I had about 2/3 health left at the end.

At level 27 and the water spell to replenish your HP, you probably could defeat the final boss without blocking or evading. However, if you want the final achievement, Clean Sweep, you can only beat each enemy once (and never lose, so no grinding for exp). In that case, you fight the final boss at around level 18, and you simply wont have enough HP to survive without blocking.
As for getting evade to work (if you're curious), it only dodges the 3 frames when the player is moved up. Since it is only 3 frames, it requires really close timing with the attack or else you'll get hit before or after the evade - however, if you get into the rhythm of the game and song, it's doable. Against many enemies, I'll often evade and attack and repeat, and beat the enemy with almost no damage taken!
its a great game you should add shields
i think that you need to release more games like this, this is one of my all time fave games on newgrounds and i absolutely love it, i dont give 5 stars often but you have earned it
