Pretty epic....but
I just dont see alot of use of anatomy with the barbarian warrior, if you studied alittle anatomy, it would look alot better. Just do some sketches of muscle men and what not, nothing big, but so you can get your feet in the water when you want to draw a dude again.
But it is cool, and I like the monster.
The man's anatomy was a conscious design choice, though his forearms still bother me a little. The reality is that, holding an axe like that, normally your face would be completely hidden. But thank you for your comments, it makes me want to prove myself, anatomically speaking.

the concept for this is fucking awesome as is the monster's design, but i think if you worked on your anatomy/values/texture this would go from 'pretty cool' to 'phenominal'
the guy's body looks really awkward especially his torso. the monster's fine though, although it could do with a bit more texture i guess

Some comments
The guy's left arm is weird; it looks like his pectoral connects to the back of his armpit, rather than the front. Also, his abs look sort of messed up, as does his grip.
The monster is very cool, though, and I like the details on the axe.
not feeling it
The barbarian's body looks like he's been mangled a few times already. the contrast of the cartoony style and the background (fire and lightning) don't really match up. The idea is good, and as mentioned a few reviews below me i really do like the idea. The epicness of the moment just isn't really there.
