Reviews for "DEXTER VS STEWIE"

Saw this on youtube :D

that's totally what would happen too.

Awesome :D
Missed those shows :)
Awesome work, but work on the sound quality :/

Okay, I'll be honest, I got major mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, you've got some clever dialogue and fun ideas for this show-thing you got going on, on the other hand you've got the...approximate voices of the characters and rehashed gags from the show thrown in at nearly every opportunity. It's hard for me to tell if you're paying honest homage to these figures or just copy-pasting gimics and characters to get views. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt here, though. I like what's going on, really. Dexter vs. Stewie with a twist ending? Love it. But the execution needs some work. The animation, in terms of how things look is fine. Stewie looked a little stretched out here, but whatever. As far as how things move though, the animation lacks punch. It needs some pizazz, some flash (heh heh), something dynamic in it. As it is, it feels more like paper cut-outs moving around.

The writing I think is your strong suit. I liked a lot of how this episode played out in terms of plot developments and dialogue, and there were some genuinely clever moments in there. The script is unfortunately mitigated by the voice acting for me. Specifically on the delivery of the lines, not just the imitation of the voices. The delivery, like the animation, just felt like it was lacking energy. Your voice impersonations are also in an unfortunate place. As far as I can tell from endless hours of internet video viewing, you can either not impersonate and use comically out of place voices for well-known characters, or you can go all out and find a perfect match. This animation falls somewhere in the middle, with the voices being close enough to tell what you're going for, but not quite good enough to be passable imitations. That with the lack of "feeling" in the delivery really takes a lot out of this.

Anyhow, that's my two cents. I'm sorry if it seems like I'm giving you the 3rd degree here, because like I said, there are parts of this I like *a lot*, but there are also some flaws that are so glaring I can't overlook 'em just for the sake of politeness. Also, I know all of this is after the fact since this was made months ago, but still, some of this might still be relevant. Looking forward to your future works!

Toonsmyth responds:

Well, I didn't realize I was going to be scrutinized by the Leonard Maltin of Newgrounds. Thank you for your constructive criticism. Sorry I don't have the resources to provide the studio quality level of animation that you demand.

And I will have you know that the multi-talented Ruthie Hanson nearly blew out her voice doing the voices of BOTH Dexter and Dee Dee. "Lacking energy" INDEED.

A clash between two classics! :D That completely spirals out of control too, lmao. Great animation, great voice-acting, though Dexter doesn't really sound like Dexter (Stewies voice is just perfect, though). Nice adding the parents to the conversation too, if only for a short while. Keep it up!

Toonsmyth responds:

Thanks, man. Glad you appreciate my homage to Dexter. Although calling Stewie "classic" might be a bit of a stretch, but it's what the public demanded. More to come, so stay TOONed!
