Reviews for "Santa's Pilgrimage"

Tips:
-Always refill fuel and gifts before upgrading, an upgrade increases the refill price, if you end up unable to pay it, you have to start all over because you can't advance with 0 fuel or gifts and can't use your remaining money to partially refill anything

-How to definitely win before dawn (first medal): ignore everything and only refill and upgrade fuel. A gift costs 200$, hitting a house is worth 100$, a kid 20$, so distributing gifts costs more money than it pays.
By only refilling and upgrading fuel you will win at around 00:40. It's impossible to win before midnight, I tried.

-How to run out of time (2nd medal) without getting stuck on the no-refill problem:
Waste most of your gifts constantly, but not TOO fast or you don't gain enough money from traveling to refill fuel and gifts. Keep wasting them to return to the shop constantly until you lose, always keep about 50k$ as backup for refills.

Spoiler for secret medal: upgrade your attraction a lot. I leveled it to 15 on my last run and then got it after refreshing the page again. Maybe it already unlocks before that, but it doesn't say when exactly.

Beware that the game gets a bit laggy during the 4th and 5th area, that, the refill-reset problem and the overall weird controls and plain graphics are the reason for my rather low score. But it's an old game so I guess it deserves at least 50% score for what it is. As part of a game-jam there must've also been a time limit to finish it, so it's not that bad.

It's okay, but I ran out of gifts and didn't have enough money to refill. That's a pretty bad gameplay issue. There should be some way to spend all the money you currently have on gifts, even if it doesn't refill completely; that would make the game much more playable.

FlyingColours responds:

Thanks for the review. That's a great suggestion and I'll do that next time I make a similar game.

Using 1 and 3 on a keyboard was a bit awkward for this kind of game. Using the arrow keys would have been much better. I wanted to play more but due to a glitch in the game, I cannot afford any fuel after completing a level. You should probably have a simple game over screen and not a menu screen that states I need to buy fuel and gifts to continue with no way to back out other than to refresh the page. It could have been better.

FlyingColours responds:

I am aware of the glitch but I haven't been able to fix it. Unfortunately, I don't have time to go through the code again to fix it. I'll try to do that when I find the time to. Thanks for the bug report.

Pros:
An Easy Game
Music sounds festive and deep
Cons:
People and House Placement is inconsistent and sometimes stack on each-other
Shop Menu doesn't allow you to pass if you've used money on other things and can't afford a fuel refill, resulting in being stuck in the shop menu infinitely.
(as said before) Controls are awkward and uneeded, I got through most of the 1s and 2s using 3 presents, it was easy.

FlyingColours responds:

Thanks for the review. The reason why I decided to put in multiple buttons is because I wanted to keep things flexible. I never meant for the player to switch keys all the time, but the player can choose 1-2 gift numbers and stick to them.

As for the shop menu, yeah, I did warn about that in the description. :P

controls are not very intuitive

FlyingColours responds:

Thanks for the review. I know the controls are not that good. I've considered other options, including combinations and number keys only, but those seemed to cause more problems than they solved. As I said, it's not a good idea switch keys all the time. I suggest you try placing your fingers on at most four buttons at a time. If you don't use a QWERTY keyboard, though, I'm really sorry!
