RTS games very seldom translate onto the flash platform. I know a couple that have worked to some degree like Battlegrounds and Colony. This one joins those. It was a hoot to play and really really fun.
The simplicity is what makes this game great. There are no fidgety commands and everything is easily manageable with the mouse. The campaigns were nice and I felt that the races were very well done. Each had their strengths and weaknesses and different strategies. I loved the Icedales but the Horde was giving me endless troubles. Resource gathering was made easy, and the inclusion of reward golems made everything less frustrating when I only started with a town and not a castle.
I also liked the fact that while 3 starring every level wasn't easy, it was also not completely necessary to progress in the game. Some games do make you go back and three star a level just so you get more skill points and while that makes sense, it also drags the game out, sometimes unnecessarily. This game still rewards you with the two edicts at every level up and that's fine by me.
I kinda felt a little sad that we didn't get to play as the undead race. Their spells were probably some of the most fun and I was hoping that by completing the other three campaigns we would unlock the undead campaign. That would've been awesome but we're left to wonder how playing the undead would've been like.
The one thing that I didn't like was the fact that you couldn't retreat from a battle. Once soldiers engage, their engaged to death. It's especially annoying if I know I'm going to lose the battle anyway. I can't leave one team to die and pull the rest out of there to recover at base.
Also sometimes unit movement is a little weird. Sometimes they refuse to automatically step into a building to repair it after conquering it and sometimes they take far too long to rearrange themselves after the battle to walk into the darn thing. It just makes the process unnecessarily slow.
All in all, this game is a pretty awesome flash RTS. Kudos for making this easy to play and fun.
Now if you could only make a skirmish mode..
