Reviews for "Maiden of Orleans"

This is kinda beast for a school project. Not a great game. But under the circumstances, so not terrible. 4.5/5

As a class coding project, it's great for the amount of time you had. As a game, besides the graphics there's a lot of work that could be done if this is going to be updated or expanded. The music, the battle system and actual progression of both the history and upgrading the heroine in RPG style. While at least the save/load worked, I got too frustrated trying to get through the woodland area at level 5 with combat getting no easier and completely random occurrence - nothing for about 90 seconds then winning one and losing the next before I could put the mouse over the Pause box to save.
I've played the PSP Joan of Arc game, so I appreciate what you're doing here. BTW, fix the Dormery that appears after you leave the house. Anyway, I didn't see any of the later story because I never got to Chinon - went into the woodland only because the other exits were invisibly blocked. Not nice to never get to important parts of the story because all the players get frustrated and stop.
Upgrade/expand/fix a class project and THEN put it on Newgrounds, OK?

dragerx responds:

The Way to Chinon is to the right the other paths are meant to be blocked, and updated at a later time. You have to continue along the woodlands! But thanks for the constructive critism:)

For a class project, the game isn't half bad. I find it playable in a sense that I enjoy it as a person who'd be looking for a game where I can play as Joan of Arc (and that's how I'll say it).

I would like to say this in the most blunt of ways that the choices of music you used for much of the game is rather horrible. Why? It was hard for me to take the game as a Joan of Arc game that seriously starting with the main menu theme. Kevin Macleod has a good collection of European-Renaissance inspired music to give the game a lot more feeling. Remember that appropriate music for any game is important in making sure that a game is playable.

I only have two things more or less bothering me. Physical and graphical boundaries are not always matching.

Also, why did you chose that spelling for her name?

dragerx responds:

We chose that spelling because this was for school and, it is the actual French way its written and not the English Translation to Joan and we were Lazy to perfect the barriers with the time we were given.

Ah, I'm French and born near Orléans so I'd love to play your game, unfortunately the WASD controls are awful on a AZERTY keyboard. Please make arrows work too, pleaaaase. (^_^
