Reviews for "Mind"

It was a bit odd, but the animation itself was quite good. Although, why bother with the mp4 upload if it was that short?

Gerkinman responds:

The video was very heavy in textures and effects which caused the .swf file to slow to a crawl. I probably should have uploaded this video at 720p as opposed to 1080p.

This was a pretty decent short. I wish I could have seen the collab it was for, but none the less this was done quite well.

Gerkinman responds:

I dont even remember what the collab was for now, too long ago ha ha.

Pretty good, a bit short maybe,
but where the 47.7mb for 19sec really necessary? It takes forever to load.

Gerkinman responds:

Yeah, I realised afterwards that I probably should have uploaded it in 720p as opposed to 1080p. Sorry.

great if not a little short, i know animating takes a few hours but its better to be longer than shorter

Gerkinman responds:

I would argue that point, I think it depends on what you hope to achieve with the animation. That said this was for a collab a few years back. I can understand why you would want something like this to be longer tho.

Way too short for the portal. The fbf really isn't very good either, everything "morphs" in that horrible way people animated everything when they've just started. Nothing has any solid shape or weight that carries through in it's movement, the animation is smooth in the sense that the outlines move smoothly from one place to another but that really isn't what animation is about. It's the general shape that must move smoothly, the black outlines are not meant to have any solid weight of their own.
Obviously i'm being a little harsh as this is fairly experimental and morphing is actually a part of it but even the things which are supposed to have solid shapes are morphing (the monster who opens his mouth). Of course in animation characters do squash and stretch a bit, but really you should learn the rules before you break them. Beyond that the art was decent and the backgrounds were interesting and professional looking. Can't say i liked the content much, far too random for my liking. You clearly have skill i just think it's important to avoid that morphing animation style that treats everything as 2d shapes.

Gerkinman responds:

I appreciate your honest feed back. The morphing was a deliberate element that was chosen to help accentuate the themes of the animation (which was made in 2009 by the way), but I do agree that morphing fbf can look very much like inexperience and its something that despite being a professional animator for the last 7 years I still struggle with. Thanks for the feedback, its always nice to read comments from people who know what they are talking about.
