Reviews for "EscapeOut"

I like the twist!

davidsgallant responds:

I like that you liked the twist! Thanks!

Weeiiirrdd! I made a 'similar' game with this same title about the same thing many years ago!
I like your game. It's quite simple (unlike mine), and even though it's not polished to perfection, I enjoyed it! I loved the twist, but I really think there should be an ending scene!

While I normally don't like "classic" submissions, this one had an interesting twist that made it fun to play.

Graphics:
Everything was way too simple. The background was solid black, the ball was solid red, the paddle was solid tan, and all the blocks were solid purple, green, yellow, red, or grey. I know it was flixel, but I'm sure it could have appeared a bit more interesting than this. Other than that, everything moved quite smoothly.

Audio:
The sound effects were simple like the graphics, but unlike the graphics, they weren't too simple. They worked well. Even so, it would have been nice if there was music.

Concept:
Certainly not original in the sense that it's based on a classic, but there was a nice twist that made this fairly entertaining for a short while. The enjoyment didn't last very long because there is only one level which takes only a short time to beat. Once you figure out how to escape and complete the game, there isn't really any reason to try it again. Perhaps you could add some levels, each one more difficult than that last, or perhaps even add difficulty settings. I'm sure making the ball faster and making the blocks more durable could add to the challenge.

Controls:
The controls are simple and effective. I like that it automatically pauses whenever you click off the screen, but it would be nice if there was also an option to pause it with a key on the keyboard. It was somewhat annoying that the paddle couldn't be moved if the mouse was off the screen, since I tend to accidentally move my mouse out of the game. I don't know much about coding, but if this can be fixed, it would eliminate one annoyance.

Overall:
It's a nice idea with potential, but lacks polish, especially when it comes to graphics.

davidsgallant responds:

What a thorough review! I wish I could say my game deserves having as much attention shown to it as you have devoted here. I don't disagree with a single point you've made, either. Seriously, thank you for this review! Hopefully I will soon post a game that is worth the effort you make.

it's ok but it really is not that fun even if you had more levels. sorry... but the idea is in it, so keep trying.

davidsgallant responds:

If I had devoted more than 24hrs to the game, it might have had more content. In its current state, you're absolutely right. Thanks for the feedback!

i destroyed every block and now i am stuck or i can not get out. do i need more speed so the ball can crush out?

davidsgallant responds:

Let the ball hit the paddle from behind. That, and the game's name, SHOULD be all the help you need.
