Mp3 players, tablet devices, laptops, desktops, and mobile smart phones all existed before apple. The first smartphone on the market was created by IBM the first true touchscreen phone, the damn thing could send and receive faxes, and this was back in 1992. Later 90's came the Windows, Palm, and Blackberry PDA phones. 2000 introduced the Nokia line of smart phones. It wasn't until 2007 the iPhone was released, pretty much riding on the coat tails of its predecessors, it wasn't as well received either due to the lack of a market for apps leaving only pre-installed ones for use, the only way to get full use was to jailbreak it... which still is necessary even on newer models. 2008 Android was released, the first phone was available only through T-Mobile, offering the first Open-source OS and Market. The first iPhone did not have any voice control, a feature that was standard on every smartphone at the time and before, even non-smartphones had this feature.
tl;dr
It took Apple six years to add a decent voice control that still functions like shit since its initial release.
