The board is squished so its short and wide. It makes it difficult to play the game when you are used to the board being truly square. Also, you should do something about the animation of the pieces. Currently its just lame, ordinary, and way too fast. After you have squared the board try making the pieces move as if they have actually been picked up, moved, and set back down all in one fluid arcing motion.

I guess it might help train people to forbid them to do moves that would get them in trouble. At the same time it's annoying to not be allowed to make the mistake. In my play, I was not shown a route for moving the wrong knight. Let us make mistakes!
this is an alright version of chess but not too dynamic, there isn't an option for a difficulty level and it doesn't take too much to beat, castling is also a little counter intuitive.
aside from that i think it has potential if you added different levels of difficulty, the minor changes could be to make the castling option on the space you move the king to instead of on the rook, and the graphics could be a little more smooth or interesting
How nice to see a classic chess game in NewGrounds!
The graphics are decent, as is the gameplay. The ability to mute the sound is definitely a plus.
The programming required for a chess game alone got you three stars. I would like to see some features added, if possible, such as: captured pieces and moves list. Still, the game works, and I really respect that. So the effort is worth an extra 0.5 stars.
The opening book seems not to be there at all, which might be nice for beginner players. More demanding players may want to pay for a more complete software, but having a flash based, free chess game is definitely welcome.
The Veredict: NewGrounds players would certainly benefit from this chess game. It should stay, as it is a decent submission, that many players will appreciate.
