That "word combination" thing makes me think of Doodle God.

That's actually very accurate. Even more like doodle God is each of the characters, as they contain combined "elements". For example all words relating to "water" (ice, thirsty, swimming), are composed with the element of water on the left-hand side of the character.... ooo, this could be a fun lesson.

Electricity + Brain = Computer.
I never did understand why: Fire + Car = Train
How is a train a fiery car?

Cuz Trains ran on stream power fueled by burning wooden logs.
Though a literal translation would probably be more like "Firetruck."
