Reviews for "Orbits"

Overall very pleasant.

This game just seems to succeed at what it sets out to do. For those just wanting to have something light and fun, it is possible to just breeze through levels, though you won't get three starts each time. And for those wanting more challenge, well, that's what the star system is for - I found it very fun to keep trying and trying to do each stage just right. I liked how each star was achieved in its own way, instead of just being "higher score = more stars" like with many games. Furthermore, the challenge levels are really quite interesting, especially for those of us who just can't get enough challenge in a game, adds a lot of replay value for the sake of getting each and every star available. The ability to come see the planet after completing levels was nice as well.

As for the mechanics, I enjoyed the physics that the game used, gravity, etc. It was fun getting the orbital achievement that way too. I can't really find much to even nitpick about this - the closest thing I can come up with was that it's a little frustrating trying to click in just the right place while the ship was already moving at a decent speed. But hey, more challenge that way, right?

Finally, I loved the music and the visuals. They weren't overly simple, nor overly detailed. They fit the game well, and to see that paired with such nice music to listen to while playing was a really nice experience. The music isn't dominating, either, so one can just play without being distracted by a barrage of sounds. I found myself keeping the music on even when I had to switch tabs to work on other things for a while. (I have to admit, autumn was my favorite.)

Overall, this was a really nice, fun game to play, something one could come back to even after beating the main levels. It was good enough to actually get me to write a review, which is saying something. Other than that tiny control issue, I just can't come up with any other real flaws to nitpick at. Very well done!

AndyBrown responds:

Thank you very much for your review! It really means a lot to us! We were really trying to make a game that can be challenging, and fun for other people at the same time. I'm glad that someone can understand exactly what we were going for when we designed this game. Also I am trying to convince the musician to make a newgrounds account to upload the music from the game on, so I can credit him properly and allow people that enjoyed the music to download it.

Loved the art

very nice game, i liked the idea and the art of the game, but i just dislike the controls a little...
anyway, congrats!

AndyBrown responds:

I'm glad you liked the game, we will try harder on the controls next time! Thank you!

remade idea of seed plantin' with crazy physics

idiot controls, they never fly like they should. ship can go any desired point, except what i wanted from him

AndyBrown responds:

I'm sorry you do not like our game, we will try harder next time, thank you for voicing your opinion and helping us understand what will work better next time- Although I have never heard of "seed plantin", and can't seem to find it when I google search that name.. I know that there are a few similar games that have very different physics so I can understand how our game could feel weird if you are used to them.

Laughed at the bonus level

it was really easy until winter, and didn't know how to 3 star a challenge level until i tried getting 2 ships in perfect and then let myself lose.

AndyBrown responds:

I'm glad you liked the bonus level! And yes, the challenge levels require you to get at least 2/3 of the landings perfect for that star. I probably should have explained that somewhere.. but I figured anyone who actually played any of the challenge levels would be able to figure it out ;)

I really like the music for autumn

the ships are ok, strangely i found the first unlockables to be better than the later ones. Why do you want it to go faster when its hard to change correct direction midflight? I beat the 4 levels with maybe 15 stars or so each, but not inclined to 'beat them fully' so to speak. I would keep the whimsy focus and try not to make the motives for unlocks a perfectionist playground, the style doesn't suit it.

AndyBrown responds:

Thanks for your review, the fast ships are for getting higher scores, since part of your score is from how long it took you. They also can be useful on other levels where it lets you do different trajectories, the spring ones can also be used for beating some levels under par.
