Reviews for "The Abyss"

Awesome track! Really nice dark atmosphere here. Cool orchestration and nice harmonies. Also nice orchestra samples you got here. This will be hard to beat. But since I heard your other stuff I did not expect anything different. The only thing which I found a bit irritating is the ending. Sounds like some more stuff will come but then it ends...

DamienFleisch responds:

Thanks :) Those EastWest Hollywood samples never fail (todevoureveryounceofmyramandprocessor). You're right, though, that I do tend to gravitate to darker music, so I'll just have to mix it up if I make it to next round!

Wow! very nice tone, I like this alot. Not shure it's "Easy listening" though.

DamienFleisch responds:

No it's not "easy" listening, but I also didn't think it was necessarily cinematic or experimental.

I'm glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the review :)

I couldn’t help but smile when I started to listen to this. Very Stravinsky like and a few others. TOO Short! Could’ve listened to this for another ten minutes or more…don’t want to be too greedy. I really like the timbre and quality of these instruments. I’m getting jealous quite a bit listening to this.
Those chords are piercing, and listening to them a second time through, they’re still giving that same effect. This piece isn’t going to get old anytime soon.

DamienFleisch responds:

I had an ambitious idea at the outset to start with the melody at the beginning and slowly expand it to a tone row which would have made it much longer. Unfortunately, I'm going to be busy the next couple of days so I had to finish it, temporarily. I'm glad you heard the Stravinsky too, he's a huge influence on me :D

Thanks for the review, and I'm really looking forward to hearing what you've come up with!

Full marks here, man! I wish I could do orchestral stuff myself, but my mixing programs just never seem to be able to give me anything even close to realistic sound....I don't know how you did it, short of actually hiring a durn orchestra, but this could easily be seen in any epic movie soundtrack.

DamienFleisch responds:

It's like most other forms of music, just takes some tools, practice, and time :)

Thanks for the review!

Definitely cinematic, and fits well to the horror genre. It's a good arrangement. The strings and woodwinds I liked the best.
