Reviews for "eyes wide open"

i read your comments don't worry

very very very nice art style it may well be traced but it works so well if this had blocky stiff tween movent it just wouldn't work, the smooth art and transitions of animal to object is simply amazing to watch.

it rasies a point, a point i have often thought of but quickly through from my mind cause it's not nice to think about. this is not a huge in your face message which people seem to think is.

it's looping while i write this review and the music is sooooo nice to listen to.
the carming music and colourful art work over a grim animation is just perfect and works almost to well anyway very well made flash well done :D

Hmm...

Good practice I suppose, but if you stick to tracing videos you'll never truly shine. My advice is to try your luck at pulling the images straight from your head. Only then will you really know where your talent stands.

Eightsquare responds:

thanks for the opinion, but i rotoscoped this video to make the character resonate as more real compared to some of the stuff arround him.

next animation i have planned will have no rotoscoping though (it kills my hands)...

Meh

The bacon part made me hungry.

Interesting art style. Far too vegan/liberal of a "message" for me, though.

Eightsquare responds:

i copied this from my authors comments because lots of people got the same idea

OKAY: i'm gonna clear two things up i am a leather wearing meat eating person and the message of the video isnt to not harm animals

the message is that we dont usually think of where our stuff comes from. we dont see bacon and think of pigs, we dont see clothes and think of where the fibres come from. even if we know where everything comes from we dont have that in our minds. and the toaster bit is because my friend found a mouse in his toaster once, so i always think of mice when i use mine...(his house id disgusting srsly)

Artistic but i strongly disagree

I disagree on many points on multiple levels. First off many of the animals that you showed as being harvested for their resources are not even hurt in the process. Taking unfertilized eggs from chickens doesn't hurt the chicken, the only time the chickens are hurt by this are in egg factory's where chickens are all cramped in small cages and forced to make eggs their entire lives. If you choose to show that instead of him ripping off its head for an egg i would disagree less. Secondly in your first example with the cow being turned into a leather boot yes, that's what happens. But to be fair the animal wouldn't have existed if they weren't planning on doing that to them. When a cow is bred and raised to be used in a farm what do you think happens? the cow is raised, milk is taken from it while its young and healthy, then it is slaughtered for its meat which is eaten, its skin is turned into leather, its dung used as fertilizer, and the rest of it disposed of and turned into mulch quite often. The animal exists to be consumed and if you think about it the animals have been bred and mated to be more suitable for our purposes, farm chickens likely would NOT survive in the wilds if they were released. Pigs are bred as food, sheep are sheared for their wool which we use for clothing and their meat is our food. Humans are omnivores, we eat meat, its part of our diet. But we are intelligent creatures we don't hunt for our food as often as we now raise it. Most humans never even kill an animal but most do eat the meat. Just because we have evolved into a society where animals are bred for our convenience does not make us evil or wrong in doing it. On a side note i enjoyed the art style, it was simplistic and charming keep up the good work but try and think the message your sending through more before you are so blatant in it.

thanks for all that writing though you obviously feel really strongly!

An interesting metaphor for consumption

Atleast that's what I got out of it. I like how it depicted the man as thoughtlessly doing these things in a routine, not caring where it came from. The animation was nicely done, the begining was my favorite. Mice and a toaster.. hmm I would love to hear your intentionality behind that
