Sadly, you're right. I have actually seen this done a lot, and I am proud to say I never have given the ones I have seen any thumbs up. Like the tetris music with the lyrics that claim only women like it (or can stand it) because it's simple and doesn't require complicated non-linear thinking, there were Y thumbs down, whatever Y was, and someone of course said "Y women have watched this video", and frankly I just didn't think it was a very clever statement, even though I myself am a misogynist.
