OK, I'll be honest..
.. I think everyone who only saw the movies has that question. Everyone who read the books also had that question, until the 4th one, where it's explained. They got a little leather band to tie it around their legs, and the reason why they only have shorts is that they don't want to carry around their whole clothing.
And yeah, I like those books. The plot itself is.. well it depends on one's taste, but how the different characters are and how they evolve is very interesting, that's I read them. The movies are not that good, because you do not notice how much the characters evolve. But I really appreciate the effort of the actors, cause they are getting quite close.
Back to your flash. The drawings were quite nice, so is the animation. I also get the joke itself, but as stated before I already know a little bit more. I think you're just too late. Making a joke about a detail someone failed to explain is a good idea and in you case it is realised very nicely, but noone failed to explain that the detail, it just gets explained later.
I know, I sound confusing, I am just trying to explain my thoughts :)
In the end, for the graphics, the idea and the realisation I'll give you 7/10 and 3/5
