Accidently blammed

On the first screen that says click to activate at start i click and it didn't start fast enough so i thought it was a broke game and 0/5'ed it. This looks like a very fun game especially for the level of detail vs the file size. It does feel like there are alot of instruction screens, maybe include a skip button on the final release, and simplify the instructions more. I had to click around to find that the enter key is used to enter shop and escape to leave..

Yeah the Mochi advert messes with my activation detection - I need to sort this out;

I didn't want to promote the file size but it's interesting that somebody noticed; The game's written in pure as3 with nice compressed PNGs to avoid needing any smelly loading screens. The world generator in the full game takes about 5 seconds to populate the whole 4km of land with caverns and tunnels and such which is why you see a flicker of loading in the demo.

I never quite know how much instructions to use; The last version of this had too much and now I think there's still too much but also some slight things missing - like pressing enter etc.

Thanks for your feedback, much appreciated,
Chris

missing a key tool

you need to put the grapple in here so that we can hook to the ceiling and still get out when we accidently EFF ourselves up by digging down to much. accidently happened cuz it hought after digging down once it would go back and dig horizontally by default. it didnt so i was screwed.

Good Start!

Ooh, this game looks really interesting. I would like to play the full game once it comes out. :) Just there needs to be a way to go back up to the surface...that's the only thing that annoys me... and there are a few problems with the dialogue. But all in all it's really fun :D

Has great potential

i like these kind of games, i'm excited to see the full game. I was dumb and dug deep right away and couldn't get back up though.

That's what your rescue beacon's for! Just be careful though you'll lose any ores you were carying!

Okay

So, like every other broken record on here, MUSIC! Now that I've gotten that out of the way, It's an interesting game. There are some mechanical problems with the programing though. The fact that you can mine while jumping is a bit...odd and kind of annoying. Also, the buttons are rather touchy. If, for the full version, you could redo it so that instead of jumping repeatedly you just jumped once when you pressed "a" , even if you held it down, that would make the game play a bit cleaner. Also, the beginning. Like that other dude, I accidentally rated this a "0" because I assumed it was broken. I know you don't want an icky loading screen but you could just have a little message that says one moment please or something other than loading...just food for thought. For your instructions problem, if you could, in a simple fashion that wouldn't kill the file size (I'm a fan of keeping it low as well) give a layout of the keyboard at the press of a button or include a controls screen, that would be very helpful. You could also have a menu that you can call up by pressing a button. That way, with a menu like that, the player can browse through all of the instructions, directions and key commands at their leisure or they can skip it and try to intuit the commands out. Right now, you basically are forced to intuit some things and others are lost on those of us who don't actually like reading instructions (95%+ of all people on the internet, from what I've seen). I realize you've probably gone through a lot of these things already but if you haven't, I hope some of those help. It's a game that has potential (sort of a low tech version of a game called Motherload) and could be a fun way to blow idle hours in the future, if only a couple of the bugs are worked out. Anyway, that's my food for thought.
