Reviews for "A Long Way Home"

Well I definitely hear some improvement here! I was actually hoping that was your voice but just altered a little higher to sound like a girl's hahahaha. The beginning vocal arrangement is masterful, and perfectly enhanced with her voice. Are the lyrics Dutch? I'm just taking a guess. Then when the second part opens up with the piano, flute, and erhu combo...it actually reminded me of some of the sad music in Naruto hahahaha! Your instrument choice there was nice, but your instrumentation overall still seems very comfortable to me heeehhh. I'm waiting for that extremely sudden wrong turn with you, but you're here building up your character, so I can't blame you. Your melodies and harmonies overall are great, peaceful and emotional. There are some interesting turns in the key that are subtle but catch my attention musically. An overall fantastic mood setter, but still waiting for some madness to come hrehrehrehrehreh. Wonderful job!

Thank you so much Zip, that's such a lovely review! The problem with me is that I haven't much experimented in too many genres of music, at least with FL Studio. I'm not even sure how to create a drum loop bwahaha, so I guess for this competition I'm trying to stick to what I know but injecting creativity whilst doing so. It can be boring doing the same kinda thing over and over again so I try to avoid that! ^ ^ The lyrics are in Danish. I just love Scandinavian languages, something about them sounds so Earthly. Also, wow @ the round 1 results... 0.2 difference!! Really great submission, you're a winner as well as steampianist in my eyes. Keep it up :)

Beautiful composition. :) I love what you've done with the harmonies and the erhu sounds perfect for this composition.

etherealwinds responds:

I think I'm addicted to the sound of erhu. I actually have one but I can't play it. Beyond harp and basic acoustic guitar, I suck with stringed instruments. Thank you so much Zukias :)

This is so enchanting, her voice is gorgeous! BlazingDragon did an awesome job on the piano part too, very peaceful. The soundfonts don't sound that bad to me, but I suck at mixing so i dunno for sure, but I like it! I've probably spoiled myself with long tracks, but I wish it were longer. That's probably asking a lot for this kind of quality in two weeks though. FIVE STARS

etherealwinds responds:

That means a lot to me Kor-Rune, you're practically renowned for producing wonderful quality work. I'm so glad that you enjoyed it. I'm blessed to have had Joy and Trevor taking part in this little project. Good luck in Round 2 and thank you for your kind review! :)

Yeah if I was against you I'd probably just write a musical white flag.

etherealwinds responds:

Haha aw no HalcyonicFalconx is extremely talented so this round is definitely going to be a hard one for me. Thank you!

Incredible! A truly epic composition: I was taken aback by the way those soothing Danish vocals were introduced. I'm always attracted to different pieces that display diversity in cultures and languages, and Joy has an exceptional voice indeed. The background vocals/humming that accompanies her is also wonderful on the ears and there's a brilliant balance evident in the piece.
Overall I consider this an inspirational piece that would merge well with a storyline of some sort or a story-driven game, film or otherwise. A unanimous five rating from me for this harmonious creation. Keep it up and the best of luck in Round 2!

etherealwinds responds:

Gosh, thank you kind stranger. Originally I came over from YouTube and I'd usually have a video to accompany my compositions that nearly always have some sort of story to really tie it all together for the audience. However, it's much harder to display with simply audio, so perhaps not everybody will follow it or understand it in a chronological sense. Such a kind review, thank you!
