Reviews for "Space-ninja"

It was okay.

The game itself was classic and okay, wasn't too much fun though. The grapics are understandable, considering the old type/snes look is probably what you were going for in the first place. It gets a little repetitive and there's isn't too much fun to be had in the first place.

Plus, ninjas use throwing stars and swords, not guns.

Going for the 'PEACE KEEPER' medal.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu- the invincible medal would be easier.

Anyway.

Obviously Star Guard. Should of had a shout out to that guy in the Authors comments at least. Would of been could to have a little story to go with this tribute as well. Let me pitch you a story real quick:

Could of been like, a pre, and your a dude who's sick of being a dude for the bad dudes. Eh? Ehhh?

As for gameplay, killing stuff feels AWESOME. The way the particals fly off of enemys and disapear is one of the main causes for this AWESOME.

Jumping is good, but theres hardly any room to jump around.

Wall jumping felt a tid bit off. Like, it was good just with holding in the jump button and letting it do it itself, but trying to speed up the climbing process by moving with the left and right arrow key was a bit sluggish.

Maybe have some beta testers, or keep a dev blog. I'v got a friend who's messing with C++, and made a hour long Cavestory demo, and he had no problem getting tons of feedback.

All in all: You could of done better, but this is nothing to sneeze at.

Star Guard Tribute to a T

That being said, I believe this is a pretty faithful adaptation, with a actually pretty decent wall jumping mechanic added in and just fine controls.
I don't see a point in getting all upset and shitting yourself over stuff that doesn't matter.
Play this game, and enjoy it for what is.
Play Star Guard, and enjoy that for what it is as well.
It's not a huge deal, honestly.

Unbelievably Charmless

I found this game to be unbelievably charmless, from the graphics, to the mechanics, to the environment.

The graphics are reminiscent of another game, Star Guard, and seem almost mirrored to an alarming point. The levels are extremely bland and boring, allowing no room for curiosity or setting. Are we aboard a spacestation, or in a basement? While mirroring the simplistic style of Star Guard, It lacks the charm that makes it work. I strongly suggest Developing a setting, and using that setting to determine the graphical style and content.

The mechanics are simple run/jump/shoot, which work great in mainly games. They bring forth no creative or intuitive use, which in itself is not totally a bad thing--Many games have these cookie-cut controls and work them fabulously--but for these controls to feel like an extension of your own will, there has to be some enticing graphical and environmental feedback. There's nothing to look at besides what you're controlling essentially, and it's quite boring to be honest.
You attempted some creative mechanics with the wall jump, but it was never fleshed out as something I felt necessary, it was just a clunky movement style that was necessary only because of the level design--no setting for the game means I can't make assumptions, If I were in a jungle I would expect to need to swing a vine, or climb a tree. The wall jumping made me envision this game taking place in a ventilation shaft, and that's all it did for me.

I found the game rather unappealing and undeserving of my time. From the boring environment, to the charmless characters, to the unnatural mechanics.
I find it deserving of a 1/10.
