Wow guys really? I believe the reason you have to wait so long for a nibble is that this is the JOKE. Most realistic fishing game, as in long and boring waiting around.

You are right
I guess you meant realistic in the sense of waiting for hours for a nibble which I give you credit for. However since this is a game, having to just sit and stare is just a waste of time.

I stared at the screen for 5 minutes and nothing happened. I hit SPACE and nothing happened. This is all the boredom of real fishing but without the excitement that comes from possible bear attacks.
