Work of Art

I find this game totally original, but it does get boring after awhile.

Very well made, and Original

This game is amazing. The sheer quality of everything just speaks for itself. It runs very well even on my not so good computer. The concept isn't the most original, the basic avoid and get, but the way that it is executed really speaks for itself. The only real problem with it is that once you get the hang of it, it loses its sense of novelty. There really isn't much more to the game besides more black blocks and the patterns that they take. If you are going to make a sequel to this, which I highly advise, try and add more depth to the game and you'll get a 10 from me.

I'm glad you liked the polish I put into this game. I understand what you are saying about the novelty aspect but I also think there is a still a fun game that remains once that has worn off. I think it depends on the player and what they are trying to get out of the experience in general. Thanks for taking the time to review and play my game.

Good

Good graphics, bug free gameplay, but not perfect.

Not really addicting. Perhaps you should make it harder -shorter- so that you don't have time to get bored.

You should enable other controls, I am thinking about the arrow keys. Playing this game with a trackpad really isn't handy...

The sound aren't "warning" of what happens. Add a sound like some kind of explosion when you get touched. You could also add an "epileptic mode" with speed techno music, colourful flashes and everything ^^ (eg stickbrix) That would make me happy.

That's all, apart from that an excellent game.

HybridMind responds:

Yeah my biggest design regret is that this game isn't much fun to play without a real mouse. I wanted to make a mouse skills game with a few twists so I just had to accept that I would possibly alienate a lot of laptop players. I did consider keyboard play but when I tested it out I found it was too different from the mouse experience. Since I couldn't make the experiences closer in game play I had to scrap it. I appreciate your review and thoughts about the sound design too. I guess I was going for 'light' warning not too heavy to break the atmosphere. I was trying to create a distinct mood with the game's visuals and song that I wrote. Thanks for playing!

Clever, Original, Fun!

8/10! For some reason, it didn't just say "9" or "10", I'm sorry I can't put my finger on what it's missing. But it's really fun and clever!

Interesting.... REALLY INTERESTING

It caught my attention right from the moment it finished loading. The presentation was great and the rest wasn't too bad either

Graphics: 10/10
They're brilliant. I don't normally give 10s on this category because good graphics will slow your PC down. This ones didn't. They were great and gameplay was still smooth.

Sound: 8/10
Good, but not great. You can switch between music/sound effects. That was a nice touch.

Gameplay: 7/10
You run away from black boxes while trying to capture blue boxes. Original enough. But the black boxes always followed the same paths each time we play so the gameplay gets repetitive. And it can be frustrating when you get to the harder parts.

Fun Factor: 7/10
Running away from some boxes while capturing others wasn't too fun. But it wasn't too bad either.

Concept: 7/10
There are some games that look like this on the Internet, but not many. However I never liked the concept of playing just to get a highscore.

Replay Value: 4/10
Now that I'm happy with my result, I don't feel like coming back.

Final Score: 7/10
This game is good. And it felt great in the beginning. However the more you play it, the more you can see it's flaws and realize it's not as great as you initially thought.

Looking at what you're trying to achieve, you did good. And I see lots of talent in you. I wouldn't suggest a sequel. I'd much rather see you working on a new, ambitious project, because you CAN pull it of.
