Reviews for "Thief: Rent's Due"

Can't think of a good adjective!

This was a great animation! I can definitely see why it got the best of the month! I'm not much into stick animation, but this one may change my opinion. Love the idea behind this too :) I'd have to agree with Ajax-Cubed, though: I would like to see how well you animate non-stick people. Good job!

Quite a laugh . . . .

I found it to be a great flash. I only gave a 9/10 from lack of Orc-ness . . . Wheres the love on NG for us Orcs? T_T

Great like a mini action one of the best ive seen

I thought Garret was a great character and for your first was it was amazing keep up the great work.
Keep Moving Forward-Walt Disney

Eh...

Yeah, sorry, but I didn't think that was very good.

I'll give you credit for making the backgrounds look like you put some effort into it. The rest of the movie's art....well, it's sticks; I can't give too much credit there.

You're probably annoyed at people when they automatically dismiss a movie as bad just because it's a stick movie, but the thing is, stick movies have been done over and over, and as a whole, they've really become a trite and overdone style. You won't be able to define yourself as a flash animator by making stick movies that look similar to the other stick movies.

Really, a lot of stick characters practically look the same, with the only distinguishing qualities being their color and the objects they hold. It's even worse in this movie since all the stick characters have the same eye shape. Thus, I can tell very little about the character or personality of any of these stick characters I see since they all seem like the same character with subtle differences.

I noticed in your gallery that you're practicing drawing human anatomy. Keep working on that. You can already draw backgrounds well enough, so I'm confident that you can definitely animate well drawn characters. But if you really insist, keep animating sticks. I really don't care. I just think that characters with actual anatomy and unique faces convey themselves better than sticks.

Also, in addition to all that, the pacing of the movie is kinda wack. The movie feels sluggish at some points, while some parts felt like they've been skipped over too fast for me to realize what was happening.

Don't take all of this too harshly; just keep these things in mind when making future flash movies. I think you already have potential

Also, just to get you started, find out how to put easing in all your motion tweens. It's a very useful tool, and it helps making each motion tween look rather stiff, which kinda bugged me throughout this flash.

Manfreak responds:

A 4/10 really? You vote 4/10 on a 8 year olds first flash and tell him to keep at it, not me. I almost spent a year on this and just because you dont like the style doesnt mean you give me a insulting score.

I get all of what your saying and understand it, except where you say sticks are overdone. Would you say the same for madness style, anime, etc... Its a style that has been around for years, you cant say its overdone. Maybe you should just stop watching stick movies for a while if your sick of seeing them.

Your feedback is good and helpful, but your scoring system is flawed...badly. I hate it when people think there being critical by giving extremely low votes but really they are just being a pretentious pricks. Ive looked through your reviews, and you have only given one 10 and one 9 out of 21 reviews. You gave Microcosm a 6/10 ffs! You clearly need to have a go at animating to give the animators here on NG the respect they deserve. Your reviews however, are helpful and good to read so keep that up. But please give your rating system a massive overhaul.

awesome!!

Really good movie dude, keep up the good work!
