Reviews for "Knuckles Vs. Mario"

Still alot of room for improvement.

I wasn't really feelin it man, I think that you could have done quite a bit better, and if you can't right now don't worry. In time you will get much better, experience is the best teacher.

i get ur drift, i kinda did though, i just gotta learn new techniques

Good effort

This reminded me of all the Mario fights before that glues the sprite community together, its fun to watch them evolve throughout the years.

Overall, this isn't a bad addition to that tradition, some things need to be worked out, such as the 3D animations, but those things will come. In time.

However, the one thing that kept me from giving you a higher score here was the snow. I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this yet but after it started snowing, the backdrop and the ground that the characters were standing on were a layer behind the snow animation, but the characters were a layer above the snow animation. I understand that you may have done this to keep emphasis on the characters and what they were doing throughout the movie, but I found it to be annoying as small details like that stand out to me.

I believe that these things will be fixed in time. Good luck =)

I knew the snow was a bit messed up, i
was so into the animation i forgot to change it, but, ur right iwill get bettr thts my goal!

not bad

pretty good.

animation- really good overall, could be better in some parts. i hated when knuckles was making all those movements, it just looked really wierd, if you want motions like that, i suggest hand drawing it, it turns out much better.

plot-... well, like every mario/sonic character fight, the sonic character, in this case knuckles, gets a mario world item, that wouldnt be bad, if every time it happened it didntturn them into ab uber form that completely dominates the other person

sprites- well, im talking about ice knuckles, the sprites were very inconsistent, some parts he was glowing (which i didnt like, because the glow wasnt that good) and others he was just blue, so that was very confusing.

kirbyky100 responds:

i was trying to stick to a color pattern, near the end, i did......dont worry....sumthin no one has ever done is going to happen to mario XD just w8

Decent

I believe your style is a combination of both Alvin-Earthworm and Chakra-X using mainly sprite fights and adding drawn elements in.

I checked the Credits and most of your materials are from Alvin, that's fine.

Just watch Chakra-X's Animation that's similar:

If you keep going, it could be awesome so no doubt I would Love to see more.

I do have a few criticisms however; the story lacks development.
What propels Knuckles to Blatantly attack Mario?
It's not like he endangered the Master Emerald or insulted him he was just Sleeping but Knuckles decides to Knock his ass anyways. It's not just a nudge to wake him up he freaking Flame Dives and then the fight ensues.

Never ever make a character just get up like that unless someone that intervenes throws them a significant buff.
Trading from one person Comboing to the next can be okay if the animation is fluid and fast enough that you breeze over it but I'd much rather see the two characters using their different skill sets atleast attempt to outwit eachother rather than:

BLAH
oh no
I'm not taking this Anymore!
BLAH BACK!
BLAH! BLAAAH! OOOH I am Defeated.

WAIT I MUST USE MY ULTRA-SUUUPER TECHNIQUE
or
YOU DIDN'T EXPECT ME TO HAVE THIS - *Insert Significant buff here*

To Keep Tension, you have to keep the Fight Going steadily building up to the final blow, the Climax in other words.

Anyone starts with their simplest techniques unless fervently enraged, if the enemy can't stop your even basic moves why waste the energy after all? And Slower and slower they consistently build up as they learn about eachother's movesets and fighting styles until finally after a long and grievous battle, one pulls through by exploiting the others weakness at the apt moment.

That's just my opinion on how to handle a fight between two epic characters like these. Allow me to recommend MK Vs. SF 3 to see what I'm talking about:

P.S. Keep Playing Mugen

I recommend getting Characters from Phantom of the Server or as his nickname goes: POTS, they're extremely well developed and actually give a sense of fairness in the game.

That's what modding is for though.

I'm really off topic here but.

4/5

im srry bro, but some of what u said made NO sense to me at all, but i sorta get wat u mean, i was thinking tht exact way actually, its just.....finding SFX isnt easy, nor is finding effects.....and u said Alvin and Chara-x, i didnt use one bit of chara-x's fighting style, just the hand drawn thing....i actually study mostly off of ShadeFalcon's work

Uhm..

I didn't really enjoy the animation at all, and I felt that I was watching a horrible attempt at SMBZ styled fighting. I mean, I suppose...that Mario vs. Knuckles was a decent idea, although you completely took it and made it into a SMBZ rip-off. Then, Knuckles absorbed a Mario Power! Just like in SMBZ and DoD! Woah!

Your camera work wasn't all that impressive either, you would lower the camera down and I could see where the snow movie clip ended. You should have kept the like, bottom of the snow movie clip away from the bottom of the v-cam.

I liked that you attempted 3D scenes, although many of them were very poorly done. They were not really appearing to be 3D, they were sloopy, and looked, rushed. Usually you did scale the sprites to change the appearance, and to make it have depth, all though, not all of it was correct.

The custom effects were nice. Although, you customed the same effects everyone else would make, which would just defy the whole fact of customing effects. You could take any regular sprite effect, and use that; could have done the job...
