Reviews for "MDJ vs Teqneek"

Hmmm . . . so many ways to judge this battle. First of great job by both MCs for bringing it in a blind 32 battle. That being said my vote goes to Teqneek, and here's why/

I am a product of HDC. I've learned much from constructive criticism from the group and for that I am truly grateful. However, I've also learned that this group is a product of those who lead it, and that those in charge don't always practice what they preach.

I've been in a handful if comps and battles through the medium of HDC and through my wins and losses I've concluded this; swagger and delivery holds higher importance than creative lyricism.

That being said, Mark, keeping with the tradition that you have set forth, encouraged, and grown, this battle goes to Teqneek.

Mark did have more direct and specifically derived personals. He met very aspect of what this battle was designed to be and he was a lyrical assassin on the mic. He obviously has the talent and the fortitude to hang with any MC in the game.

However, in keeping with the tradition of how voting goes for comps in this community (most judges recruited/influenced/magically created by Mark) I'm casting my official vote for Teqneek.

Teq has a unique style, and even though he wasn't as direct with his punches, his ingenious way of tying together multis, implementing extreme yet relevant metaphors, and having more swag than a rookie pot dealer, takes him over the top in the competition.

Teqneek ftw. Final Answer.

First off, props to Axtekk. This beat is really fucking dope.

Solid battle. Really close.

Mark:
-Don't sweat the teqneek was dope
-Eq line was kind of clever.
-No punchlines could have been a good setup, but you didn't do anything effective with it. If you're going to talk about him not having any punchlines, you NEED to make sure that scheme pays off.
-White people dissing other white people for being white is a bad look in my book. Big red line was decent though.
- First things first get rid of teqneek was a solid punch, I enjoyed that.
-Vote bitching hypocrisy was your best angle in this verse. I REALLY like what you wrote, but your voice lacked the power in this section. That part should have been delivered a lot stronger than you did it.
- I see what you're doing with the end of the verse, ending with a shot at mickey. I'm not going to get into what's gone on between you two, but on the punchline end of it, that still seemed weak for a closer. If it was mid verse I'd say it was okay, but always try to finish strong.
- Flow was solid, and your delivery was mostly smooth (except where I mentioned earlier). You've stepped up how you sound on a beat. Good work

Teq
-Opening scheme is dope. Hiding behind women though?
- Emergency is a master ... bit was funny.
- The hate crime/8 9's scheme was dope, but not related to Mark at all. I mean, you called him a virgin in the middle of the scheme, but that's still a stretch.
- the religious angle was a good call, but again, dropping a gay bar in the middle of it cheapened the hit.
- tournament blows goats was funny
- I like your flow style, and lyrics and all, but your doubles are bugging me a little. I don't know, maybe it's just me. And that chorus on your main vocals is still a touch strong for me.

Overall:
Mark came to this battle trying to dismantle Teq's style. I see what he's trying to do, and it's a very difficult strategy to execute properly. He did a good job of it, but he need more payoff.

Teq came to this battle to outrap Mark. The verse's construction was excellent, and he had some solid punches thrown in for good measure. The flip side of it is that he's not being as specific about Mark as Mark was about him. I'm sure for some people that will be the deciding factor, but I'm not as huge on staying 100% personal as everyone on here.

This battle took several listens to in order to find a winner, so you both did well, but Teq takes it.

Quick reply to MDavidJohnson's comments:

1. Last time I checked, the collective was INVITATIONAL as well. Lol...

2. That "rush" you were talking about took 14 days.

Good battle Mark. May the best man win. And may the loser be hurled into a vat of molten lead.

People need to learn the difference between an INVITATIONAL tournament, and an OPEN collective.

Anyways, good battle. I definitely had to rush a little, but that's no excuse, I think I did good. Teq did good too. All good all around.

I find it funny how a dude that relies on secret voting to run a battle comp accuses me of lying... oh well...

Mark: If lyrics weren't posted, I would've missed a lot of lines due to bad enunciation and weak/rushed delivery; verse sounded rushed and unpracticed. Flow was good, but kinda boring. He had the better personals.

Teqneek: Flow and lyricism was so on point and polished; a huge step up. Out of the two, he def had the better humour here.

Teqneek gets the win with his practiced and refined performance; sounds like Mark didnt even try.

Props to Axtekk, he's killin it with the beats, production and overall badassery.
