Reviews for "Hypno8"

Pretty good :).

A simple concept, yet pretty addictive and fun to play, still. Has its advantages and disadvantages, maybe the most obvious of the disadvantages is that there's so little to do, just click on a spiral as you follow it through a pattern of '8'.

The graphics were good. A little simple, but the fact that you added so many things to make you get distracted from the actual game gave a bigger challenge than just following a spiral and clicking it. Not really much to do to improve the graphics here ^^. The animation was smooth, although maybe you could add a 'Quality' button, since at times the game may lag. Sure you can just right-click and change the quality, but that won't work when you have to keep your mouse in the spiral.

The concept is quite original, which boost your score a little. As for the gameplay, there isn't really much I can complain about. What I would complain about is the lack of different things to do in this game. The aim is simple: click on a spiral and follow it until it becomes too fast for you to follow and you lose inevitably. While this game may be addictive at first, I won't want to come back to it and play it again, since it lacks depth.

To spice it up a bit, I liked Kirbyfemur's idea of making the background more distracting as you go along, so maybe you could try that out. Possibly add more than one spiral which have different paths and when they touch each other you have to swiftly move to the next spiral since the original spiral was disappearing or something like that. Change the spiral path too, having an '8' makes it too predictable. Things like this can really add to your game.

The audio was fine. Music was alright, and I liked that it changed speed, although the fact that later on it moved back to a slow speed even though you were in a harder level was a bit anti-climatic. Other than that, not really much to complain about with the audio.

This is a simple game, fun to play for a while, although lacks depth. Sure it's simple and fun, but can get boring, so I'd suggest making it more complicated with more to do than just click and follow. Still, keep up the good work :).

Quite addictive and good fun

I think that for a simple concept of a game, this is perfect. You've designed a game that gets points for clicking a circle that moves in an easy, set pattern at an increasing speed and you lose the game for clicking outside the circle. It is made a hell of a lot more challenging by adding the hypnotic pattern to the mix, but it still works as a game and I have to say that I did play this for a good few minutes, before I tried to write this review.

With the way that you will inevitably lose, do you think a high score table would be a good idea? It just looks like the natural progression for me. Also, I wouldn't stop the proceedings and say "Next Level", I'd just sound a gong each lap and have it work that way, with the piece moving constantly, just to keep the game flowing. It's much more of a challenge that way.

Not much to it...

I mean, it does what it does, and it does it pretty well.

The graphics aren't amazing, but they fit well to distract you and get you to almost loose focus on the spiral, which for this kind of game is a good thing. But i would recommend maybe having the background and the main spiral progressively get trippier, like i mean, start of with a simple non moving background then get more movement as you get further.

Also, maybe have more sounds, and music in it, like have a more interactive song in the background, that speeds up as the level increases. It just needs to be more audioly pleasing in general.

Anyways, it's not bad, but could use a lot of work. =3

I could only get around 5,000 points and it really got hard after that. I think some of the people who got over 14,000 points must have cheated in some manner.

~ Animation/Graphics ~

The animation was smooth and simple. There isn't much to complain about or to comment about either. The game seemed to lag quite a bit in the beginning, but that must have just been for me. In the later levels when it got faster the lag went away. I'm sure that's my computer though.

~ Story/Concept ~

It's a test of skill for sure, but the simplicity takes a little bit away from it. Don't get me wrong, the simplicity is also one of it's strong points. For example, doing two things at once is a great challenge game, but it gets repetitive and not too exciting.

Why not change the way things move or look after each level? Still make them harder by making them faster, but maybe change the shape or at least make it smaller and change the course between every level. Adding more directions the main target can go will just add to the fun of the game in my opinion.

~ Audio ~

The sound effects and everything were perfectly fine. The voice for the next level was really nice and fitting for the submission. Other than that there isn't much to mention about the audio.

~ Overall ~

The graphics were good, the concept was good, but a bit simple at times, and the audio was a nice addition to the game. I would have gave this somewhere around a 7.3 so I rounded down to 7. Keep up the good work and I hope to see more games from you in the future!

I found it difficult really, i think is a simply but nice game realy, i enojeyed playing it... The background music was ok and the voice "Next Level" was very nice i really like that lol
I think maybe changing the direction of the Hypno it would be funnier, like not always the 8... obviously you would need to change the game name for that, but that would make it funnier :p
Its a great game for highscores... and nice idea you had :p
