Needs work...

This was decent. It would be better if you used SMB3 or SMWorld sprites. And like everyone else said, the background has to move. Its a must for these games. Make original traps that would make since in the Mario world. Example: Mario always uses his green pipes. Well if you happen to land on a green pipe at the perfect time, you go down it and lose.

On the other hands, put coins in the air too. While Mario is soaring through the air, put coins in the air. That way you can use the coins as a way of upgrading either the catapult or the character..

One more thing that I would love to see out of all catapult games: more than one character. Another (and last) example: Mario is your well rounded character, Luigi is long thus he can catch more coins, Princecess stays in the air longer, Toad bounces higher, and so on.

Sorry that this is rather long. I like catapult games, but all of them need work. I would like to see a version two of this!

I wanted to stick with original Mario sprites, but if anybody else brings it up i'll change. Thanks for the ideas; pipes will be in the next build and maybe coins too. I'm only a beginner, but if I got this far then i can add more characters. Thanks.

why not..

just make a scrolling background and floor add some sound and you'll have a better game

Yet another catapult game needs to do more.

You could have something going using classic sprites like these, but if you're going for that then you need to be consistent. Make some backgrounds out of actual Super Mario Bros art, not this higher resolution stuff, and use the spikes from the actual game. I've got no clue where these ones are from but they throw me off. Just flying much higher and a dynamic camera would make it a lot more engaging too. That and adding a lot more obstacles/boosters.

Most of all, though, this -sorely- needs death animations.

hmm...

There are games like these everywhere, and you need to fix some things.

The background. <-- important to see that Mario moves at all
Maybe some controls, so you can maneuver in the air.
Bloood..... lots of blooooood, at least when he hits the spikes.
And maybe an upgrade menu.

I love the retrostuff so if you could fix this it would be awesome, who wouldn't want to launch Mario into the air and see some gore
