Reviews for "Pandemic: American Swine"

PANDEMIC!

I LOVE THE PANDEMIC GAMES!

Good game

Its a very detailed interesting game, but there seems to be plenty of things which arent really that useful.
For example using nukes; why blow up a city and incur a massive boost in panic and a huge cost when you could just let them all die by their own accord? It doesnt seem to stop the rate of infection because that seems to happen slowly even on harder difficulties.
There seems to be no disadvantage to being a open government. So you cant nuke a city and quarentines are more expensive... So what? Neutron bomb if you really have too (despite there being no point) and quarentines dont do anything anyway. When a city is infected then there is no point quarentining it as its already in the rest of the state anyway. Even if its in the rest of the state, but not the city there is little point doing it because they have such a small population in comparison.

So to win even on expert, all you need to do is be an open government. Keep infection rates down with masks and info campaign and by day 5 you'll have the vaccine, then you just vaccinate all the high populated unifected states. California and Texas vaccinate themselves and you can save florida. Once you've vaccinated the high pop east coast states, your done.
All in all, the little extras like destroying the virus and nuking cities are nice extras but not really useful at all.
Also sometimes the media reports negative things like "Las Vegas encounters swine flu" when most of Nevada is dead (no point trying to save that state) and all that has happened is that 1 healthy person there got infected, whilst everyone else is dead or immune.
So it was infected before, but everyone died/immunised themselves and that didnt get reported, but some random guy wanders into it and gets infected, suddenly its national news...
What I think this game needs is a city and hospital in every state. That way quarentines and nukes might be useful. The hospital shouldnt immunise people automatically for free, but rather thats where you have to pay to immunise the people. This would then mean that closing hospitals might actually have a point to it.

On the plus side, the game is really fun to play despite some pointless aspects, and the music is brilliant. The concept is great and its fun to be against the virus for once. Its just that I for one would like to see a point in the closed government other than having it to make the game harder and unlock the hardest setting.

Woot!

Awesome new game. I was expecting this one to be just an America-only version of Pandemic with Swine Flu, but it was interesting playing the other side for a change. I prefer the other Pandemic games to this one, but that's not to say that this wasn't a great game.

Makes me remember...

Madagascar has closed its borders... anyone?

Great sequel

This is a great continuation of the pandemic series. I loved it, it was complex, had a good user interface and engaging. And in response to Balrogs-pain comment, it does tell you exactly what to at the start, you win by either A vaccinating 70% of the population, or B eradicating the virus, i thought that was pretty clear, and it also tells you why you would lose. Maybe you should just learn to read :P
