Reviews for "Junior"

Sick

the baby/kid was really fucked up. but i liked the flash still

Great Movie.

Great movie. And quote, "Make me a grilled cheese sandwhich." . Y'know, I could go for a spicy grilled cheese sandwhich. GRILLED CHEESE FTW. AND ALSO THIS MOVIE.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I love what you have going on here with the chronology of these toons. I can't tell if you're going on from the six degree method or what, but its working. The ending to this toon was absolutely amazing and your art style is perfect as always. Awesome work, keep it up.

I love it

I've been loving these series of animations. You're definitely one of my faovrite flash animators. Keep up the good work.

So compelling, it tears me apart

The original Jerry left me speechless (in general) for days. What I think makes it work is that Jerry is the everyman (well obviously), but not in the marketable Hollywood sense of things. Every single one of his dreadful flaws are focused upon in depth. The direction was simply perfect also. The story was shown and not told. Since everything was so clear in mime, anybody could fill the blanks. I suppose thats what makes it so relatable.

Initially, my thoughts were "Jesus, this is me. I've fallen into this trap" and I felt like that for weeks, but then I realized that a true message would be not to become Jerry. To see Jerry as my posterboy for failure rather than destiny. Now I can watch the original without getting depressed.

Now with the introduction of speech (Not just here, but in past entries too), we dive much deeper into the characters. I personally feel this is a direction the seires had to take. Others have critizized the way this was approached, but I think its acceptable. Theres so much I want to know about these characters now, thats the power of the original short. Theres just no way on earth most of this can work as mime. Whilst Jerry explored global woes and worries that can be universally understood, Jackie and Junior dive deeper, and become way more specific.

I suppose it could be said that we've now broken away from the original Jerry formula, but in my opinion this works just fine. Jerry still remains the everyman I can relate to as he remains mime. If he began to talk then I think that would be it. He would start recieving deeper character, which I think would just blow the seires apart for the worse...

Without the power of the original short, I doubt anybody would like this as much as they do now. Because we're so deeply invested in this world, I'm absolutly fine with this deeper character exploration.

But this has been put together with great taste, and it all wraps together great in the best possible way. Theres no way in hell that a fairytale happy ending would be possible in this world. I know I want to see Jerry rise from hell, I know I want to see Jackie beat her drug addiction and live with Jerry once again.. but I know I cant. Thats not the way the world works, and thats the reason this seires performs so well. The ending is flawed, but heartwarming. It should be impossible to emphasise with anybody in this short, but you do.

I want more. No, I need more. You really dont realize what kind of a monster of incredible storywriting you have unleashed on Newgrounds.. Its clear you really dont want to continue this, but I'm hungry for this stuff. Its become so compelling, its tearing me apart...

I think theres perhaps at least 3 characters this seires could explore... Jerry's Mother, Junior's Mother, and Jerry's life leading up until the beginning of the original short... If we started jumping into Junior as an adult, Jerry's dad as a kid, or characters that were introduced after the original short... I dont think it would work.

I hope you read this, because this is an addiction now. I dont care what I have to do to make a sequel happen, even if I have to donate an insane amount of cash. This seires is just that perfect.

I wish I could turn back time and vote 10 for the original Jerry rather than 9 as I did then. It truly deserves it. As for Junior, its a differnt style of storytelling that doesn't match the previous formula, but it compliments the seires perfectly, and I honestly dont think we could have asked for any better.

HotDiggedyDemon responds:

Thanks for the review man. Yeah, I have to admit, there are times when I feel like a bit of a Jerry myself. Life can drag at times, I think it's something all of us go through. Adding dialogue seems to have been a polarizing decision amongst the fans, but to me it was an inevitability because more complicated stories require more expositional dialogue. I'm not sure why you say "It's clear you really don't want to continue this" because in fact I DO want to continue, the Jerry series is one I enjoy making and am proud of. And there's more on the way!

In any case, your kind words really cheer me up. When someone communicates to me that they really understand what I was going for, and they prove it by relaying my own ideas back to me, the work I do is extremely gratifying.

PS: BIG BAG!
