Reviews for "Brawl Funnies [dick 3]"

Ok.

Don't know if you read reviews. I would hope you would considering how much time you spent on writing that large paragraph above.

The animation itself wasn't really much of anything, you complain about those who make fun of games and parody them. Yet all you're doing is a parody of a parody. I understand that this may be the point you're trying to get across, through the irony of such an act, but it's not saying much for yourself.

As for Newgrounds as a whole. Of course there are going to be those who cater to the majority, and of course Newgrounds is looking to make money by appealing to what's popular. It's natural of any business, and natural for most humans to try and find a niche for themselves. But i think the major flaw in what you're saying is that animation is suffering due to this. And i think that's completely wrong. There are 1000's of unique, interesting, and original works on this site that are absolutely stunning in their quality. Perhaps it is people like you, who simply view what the majority views and don't dig in deeper to try and find the more imaginative animations that's the problem? Newgrounds has animations of almost every flavor, and of a varying range of quality, which helps people like TheSwain go from animation quality of Blockhead 1 to Mastermind 3. The difference is stunning, but if this site only allowed on it the most popular and the most talented people he would've been left in the dust.

Newgrounds is just hosting this material, it isn't acting as a dictatorship of animation really. What they choose to promote is what they choose to promote, if you're interested in more defined and complex animation then go looking for it, because it's definitely here.

Also, two things. One, people who like the generic "awesome" stuff can also like the more complex flashes. You make it seem as if it's one or the other. Two, if people don't want the more complex flashes they don't want them, shoving them in their faces isn't going to make it any better, it's just going to reduce newground's traffic. And that is a sure fire way in the long run to end a website's legacy. If anything, i think that would hurt animation as a whole more than anything. There aren't many sites like newgrounds where user-generated content is actually taken seriously.

A few months ago ashford pride made a movie with a foreboding title. It was called "Awesome Grounds".

Well ladies and gentlemen, that's might as well what this site should be called (at least right now), with the top row on the front page slot dedicated to an "awesome" movie and an "awesome" parody, an "awesome" t-shirt in the newgrounds store, and pretty much every "awesome" movie in the top 100, along with han's "awesome's creed".

I can't go to newgrounds with seeing something not about egoraptor or his coveted video game parody series. It makes me wonder sometimes if pursuing anything but half-assed cartoons making mildly funny observations about video games laced with profanity is even worth it. Truly, they are what bring the masses of 13-year olds to this site, and thus increases traffic and competition in the internet world. But you have to ask yourself, with this sort of two-bit audience increasing in numbers, are they really interested in watching anything else?

I understand that it's a dog eat dog world in the online entertainment business, and to compete you have to pretty much put up content that a majority of internet browsers would click on. This includes either women or video games. Things they already know they want. And that's all they want. They sign up, watch more, and come back and do it again later. They're trained to know that what they want is easily accessible and is promoted all over the site.

Original content is often shuffled off to the bottom of the page, or never gets any attention to begin with. Now comes into play the whole 'they won't click on it unless there's a boob for the icon', etc etc. That's because they've been fashioned to think that way.

I'm not saying i have all the mysterious answers to the way people's minds work. But this much is true - if all people click on are breasts and video game icons, and you give them breasts and video game icons, you're not pushing the envelope.

Newgrounds is the epitome of user-generated content. We already have a massive advantage over youtube in the fact that making a cartoon involves so much more creativity than snappily editing your webcam footage. So instead of 200 cartoons coming out every minute, we have 200 cartoons coming out every day. That gives someone a better chance of breaking out and being discovered for his hard work, and a reward for a job well done.

But in the same way that viewers are trained that they don't have to go out of their way to avoid original content they would otherwise enjoy, authors are becoming more and more disenchanted with their personal creations and are turning to nerd culture icons and cheap tactics to get viewers.

I can't tell you how many animators I have spoken to that have shunned their own creations in favor of sub-pop culture parody and disjointed scripts sprinkled with toilet humor and profanity. a cartoon catering to everyone who's forgotten what cartoons are all about. And here we are shoving away everything about cartoons that was originally appealing and magical, because we're pretty much forced to.

I'm not pointing the finger at any one person here. I think it's part of the bigger picture - bigger than Newgrounds, too. But if people really care about the future of cartoons and animation, we wouldn't be seeing this kind of blatant favoritism.

People will find what they want if they want it. They don't need to be spoon fed it all.

For thirty years animators who strive to create something genuinely unique have gotten nothing but a slap in the face. It's sickening and it has to stop someday, before they all disappear.

Lastly, this post is not about me. I'm not writing this out of self-pity, bitterness or spite. I'm being honest. I care a lot about the future of animation, and what I see around me is very troubling. The industry is bad enough, but where the future lies is in the small corners of the animation world. Newgrounds is one of them. I spend a lot of time trying to encourage and teach frame-by-frame animation, and creating your own characters and scripts. That is what is important

I hate doing this, but...

I'm going to have to pull a "Yeah, what he said", since SWiTCH pretty much said exactly what I was thinking when watching/reading your description.
Really.

umm ok. i sense anger.

to be truthful i didn't enjoy this flash at all and your other one was ok but it got less amusing later on through till the end.
i can see your point about ego raptor it is being milked slightly, but it is because he has done so well and it is in our nature to suck other peoples ideas dry.
i mean i am not really good at animating but i could do something better than that. an animation like that doesn't really deserve front page in my opinion.
i gave it a three because the idea behind it is something worth doing but do it with some more skill and wit... no offense.

Cynical Soapbox Flash

Aside from the questionable content and animation, you've hit upon one of the problems that made me stop voting and reviewing stuff on Newgrounds, because let's face it, I don't think half the viewers are of an age where they can realize that an animation can be good that doesn't have sex or tits in it. So stuff that's usually not too bad gets ignored in favor of submissions by more popular artists. That's not to say I don't like the "Awesome" stuff or the Brawl Taunts or even the Parody Rangers, but at the same time, I don't like ALL of it. Some of it is just crap.

With that said, not all the things made by less popular or amateur artists is all good either. In fact, most of it is terrible. Like anything, Flash takes time and effort to get good at. Me, I don't have the time or the effort to expend on learning this particular skill just in case you want to pull out the boring arguement that, "You don't know how hard it is because you never tried." I don't want to try, it's as simple as that. But for all those amateur Flash artists who think that your junior-high humor coupled with a few badly drawn penises is going to earn you the front page and internet celebrity, you should pack that shit up and leave right now. That kind of thing is, to turn a phrase, "The cancer that is killing Newgrounds."

The problem is the same one that is killing Hollywood, the anime industry, television and literature. It's all been done before. We've seen it all. The good stories are told, there is very little left. Truly original, creative ideas that are worth the spotlight seem few and far between these days. Unfortunately, the only way to get attention seems to be to appeal to the most people at a time. And that means you have to whip out the old standbys of sex, sex, drugs, violence, more sex, drugs, violence, a few more drugs, and sex and then violent sex while doing drugs. No one cares about rock n roll anymore anyway.

Next time you want to get up on the pedestal to preach, just say it straight. Cloak it in sarcasm and you get uninspired reviews that include the word "Fail" by males age 13-18.

The animation depression.

I go off track, a lot, and I'm none too bright.

The bar is raised, do you remember when 'that' guy used tweening? it was still funny and he got votes of 5, but now that he don't, we won't, and whoever will, gets auto 'i dont like this', no matter how original or fun his or her idea can be, and whoever CAN animate, AND tell a good story, works. Right now, for newgrounds, that can be summed up with Awesome.

Such a good reason to make a flash, and I'm sure you're using Irony for the joke, but that just doesn't go out to people in a matter like this, this is what they love, who they are, what they can laugh at. I laugh at Awesome, it's funny, it is.. funny, extreme exaggerations of minor observations make me laugh, it's just who I am, but newgrounds is not about laughs, it's about... everything by everyone, and I hear you when you think it's 'Princess Zelda''s Boobs by Egoraptor' But that isn't his fault, you can't get monty python to make serious puns, he's doing that crazy wtf humor about completely random moments. But they've gone, no more funnies from them, and now what's our inspiration? continuing failures in movies of late, look at Adam Sandler - Zohan, then Adam Sandler - Happy Gilmore, the difference in audience is huge, and that effects us!

this is because there are two types of comedeys. Well thought out humor[WTO], and WTF humor, no matter how the joke is told, it's either completely unexpected [HADOOOOKEN], or funny, because of a reason you have to think about [ie, 911, i locked myself out of my car, and I left the top off, it's starting to rain.] until someone comes up with something creative and new, it's going to be the same comedy that no one notices because it's been done, and abused.

It is important, because this doesn't only apply to comedy, but also every other genre that appl-.. it just effects everything, if you're raised with a funny environment, you're gonna know a couple of good jokes.

...Waaay off topic there.
Anyway
People either don't know how to make a joke, or how to tell it. Egoraptor knows how to tell his own joke, but nobody else does... that's why penis, boobs, and mario conquer newgrounds like pedobear tailors little boys suits. he's all over them. =O

The bar is raised, all the old jokes, stories, and songs have come and gone, and either history repeats himself, and we find another charlie chaplin, guns n roses, and steven king, or no one will ever be original until flash animation is dead and gone. that's how sitcoms work, once they've run themselves into the dirt, they just end, like f.r.i.e.n.d.s, but they never shut up.

...I looked away for a bit, lost what I was talking about. ._.;
SO, TL;DR?

EVERYTHING HAS BEEN DONE, IT'S HARDER TO DO SOMETHING ORIGINAL EVERYDAY, BECAUSE EVERYTHING BY EVERYONE MEANS EVERYTHING HAS BEEN DONE BY SOMEONE, AND UNLESS YOU'RE SOMEONE NEW, YOU'RE GOING TO BE SOMEONE OLD. PEOPLE AREN'T WITH LACK OF CREATIVITY, BUT ARE JUST BEATEN BY PEOPLE BEFORE THEM.

"For thirty years animators who strive to create something genuinely unique have gotten nothing but a slap in the face. It's sickening and it has to stop someday, before they all disappear."

-You.

What are you doing now? To Awesome, it's unique, -in it's own way, it's very VERY similar to everything else.- Maybe, soon, someone will have something original, something you would like, that isn't about porn, or parodies. There are some people out there with original jokes, and instead of preaching to us, why don't you at least try to fix the problem yourself? you seem smart enough to make your own jokes, and if you've read through all this, you have a lot of... ........patience! i'm rambling and rambling, and a flash takes a lot more attention than this, become the solution, and I'll be waiting for something good from you!

<I have spoken. Like an idiot, but lets hope it gets my message across before someone decreases the size of my E-Penis.>

Oh, by the way, flash wasn't funny.
