so you submitted a video so you could talk to the NG audience huh? Well maybe if you were so creative, you could have made a cartoon that reflected what you had to say. this thing was unintelligible.

however, i do see what you're trying to say, that newgrounds has become just another post-modern machine. i agree with you in some respects. there are a lot of egorapter type animations on this site, but most of the better ones have some kind of basis for their jokes. most of the better ones play on the games' own stupidity; the stupid-style animation is supposed to emphasize that. the animation style itself may seem "half-assed," but the content is what makes it so amusing. i will give you that some of these films are entirely jibberish; that's what happens when someone who can't write jokes does one of these animations. i'll also side with you in saying that most of the "brawl taunts" series falls into this category.

i also agree with you in the sense that there are a plethora of 13-year-olds on this site that will only click on a boob or something retarded. this is just something that plagues the internet as a whole. x-box live, youtube, facebook; these are all full of lame 13-year-olds, mostly because they're the ones with all the free time. most of us older folk (that can spell and use english grammar correctly) aren't online as much as these kids; we have other responsibilities to tend to.

basically, i'm just trying to say that there is an abundance of stupidity on this site and sites like this, but not all of it is stupid. a lot of the egorapter stuff is original in the sense of the content, even if the style is overused. if you don't like that style, that's fine, but don't go shooting it down just because you think it's "stupid." the three stooges were pretty "stupid," but they were also a very successful group thanks to what some might call "stupidity." however, their content was original and witty. as for the immature 13-year-olds, well, you just have to try to ignore that stuff. believe me, i've seen all sorts of fucked up 13-year-old "humor," and its sickening. you're never going to beat them, there's too many of them. just ignore it. a few good cock jokes are funny, but when the whole animation is a giant mushroom stamp, it's just lame.

there are a number of creative and original artists on this site. sometimes, you have to wade through all the overused, cliche, 13-year-old garbage to get to it. i recommend the swain, the brackenwood series, xombie, krinkels, and a number of the other MGS parodies, just to name a few. hopefully, you can see what i'm saying here.

A few months ago ashford pride made a movie with a foreboding title. It was called "Awesome Grounds".

Well ladies and gentlemen, that's might as well what this site should be called (at least right now), with the top row on the front page slot dedicated to an "awesome" movie and an "awesome" parody, an "awesome" t-shirt in the newgrounds store, and pretty much every "awesome" movie in the top 100, along with han's "awesome's creed".

I can't go to newgrounds with seeing something not about egoraptor or his coveted video game parody series. It makes me wonder sometimes if pursuing anything but half-assed cartoons making mildly funny observations about video games laced with profanity is even worth it. Truly, they are what bring the masses of 13-year olds to this site, and thus increases traffic and competition in the internet world. But you have to ask yourself, with this sort of two-bit audience increasing in numbers, are they really interested in watching anything else?

I understand that it's a dog eat dog world in the online entertainment business, and to compete you have to pretty much put up content that a majority of internet browsers would click on. This includes either women or video games. Things they already know they want. And that's all they want. They sign up, watch more, and come back and do it again later. They're trained to know that what they want is easily accessible and is promoted all over the site.

Original content is often shuffled off to the bottom of the page, or never gets any attention to begin with. Now comes into play the whole 'they won't click on it unless there's a boob for the icon', etc etc. That's because they've been fashioned to think that way.

I'm not saying i have all the mysterious answers to the way people's minds work. But this much is true - if all people click on are breasts and video game icons, and you give them breasts and video game icons, you're not pushing the envelope.

Newgrounds is the epitome of user-generated content. We already have a massive advantage over youtube in the fact that making a cartoon involves so much more creativity than snappily editing your webcam footage. So instead of 200 cartoons coming out every minute, we have 200 cartoons coming out every day. That gives someone a better chance of breaking out and being discovered for his hard work, and a reward for a job well done.

But in the same way that viewers are trained that they don't have to go out of their way to avoid original content they would otherwise enjoy, authors are becoming more and more disenchanted with their personal creations and are turning to nerd culture icons and cheap tactics to get viewers.

I can't tell you how many animators I have spoken to that have shunned their own creations in favor of sub-pop culture parody and disjointed scripts sprinkled with toilet humor and profanity. a cartoon catering to everyone who's forgotten what cartoons are all about. And here we are shoving away everything about cartoons that was originally appealing and magical, because we're pretty much forced to.

I'm not pointing the finger at any one person here. I think it's part of the bigger picture - bigger than Newgrounds, too. But if people really care about the future of cartoons and animation, we wouldn't be seeing this kind of blatant favoritism.

People will find what they want if they want it. They don't need to be spoon fed it all.

The movie wasn't great, but clearly people immediatly voted 0 the second you said anything bad about the Awesome series. Because it is just plain awesome. However disregarding what you said about that you are very correct...though why you made the video an example of the type you dislike I don't get. Should have shown just much better original stuff actually is.

You fool, original work - art-based, comedy-based or similar - is NEVER appreciated at first. For example: Van Gogh was smart enough to realise his artwork would never be appreciated until he was dead - he's quoted for saying this. And then he shot himself. Suddenly his artwork is popular.

I'm not saying you should shoot yourself, but you people are preaching about how you're tired of 'pop-culture comedy'; yet you fail to come up with anything even NEARLY comedic (prime example: Brawl Funnies). Perhaps instead of complaining about how pop-culture comedy is so popular (such irony!), you should actually think of original material yourselves. Comedy isn't about politics - at least, not in this way.

Critique-wise, this was abysmal - in terms of quality AND comedy - a prime example of why *some* original comedy is not popular at all. Perhaps if you had submitted something decent it might have added weight to your argument.

Ok I have to say there was barely any and please stress the word BARELY any animation in that not to mention no humor, no etc. Not to mention you turned author comments into the longest author comments I have ever seen. Also I have read Mordwyl's and 419chris419's comments (same thing really) and they are mostly right now also what you said is not that true. I have not seen a "awesome" movie on the front page in a while. correct me if I am wrong please. Still it does not matter maybe you could make a very good animation to replace "awesome" animations. Me , I am 100% not bothered by these "awesome" animations, and I bet several people agree to. There are a lot of good animaters out there. The make this website great and if you do not like a certain animation or animation series simply right a comment don't make a huge author comment about it and make a even worse animation.
